5.0 out of 5 stars Disco music meets nineties dance music
"Hung Up" is not just the first single of Madonna's 2005 album, "Confessions On a Dance Floor". It also opens up a new period for her music, one where she's going back to before she started making music, blending in a disco-like sound with bits and pieces from her "Ray of Light" period. "Hung Up" starts off with samples from ABBA's "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!" to jump full...

3.0 out of 5 stars How they RUINED the SPD extended mix
As a lover of the original mix of this song who longed for an extended version with the incredible break and build up in the video, I'll never get over the fact that the extended version COMPLETELY leaves out the entire "I can't keep on waiting for you" part, which is the only thing that changes up the back and forth between verse and chorus in the original version! For...

Gimme! Gimme!" to jump full fledge into a track that you simply will not be able to sit still through. You will easily find yourself (specially if you are an eighties child) tapping your foot to it for starters, and getting up and dancing without caring as it hits the chorus, "Every little thing that you say or do, I'm hung up. I'm hung up on you."

The premise for the new album and single was just to make you dance all night long and "Hung Up" is THE perfect song for that. The lyrics are a no-brainer, but they were never ment to, if you want developed writing from Madonna look for "Bedtime Stories, "Erotica", "Ray of Light" and "American Life".

It samples ABBA's "Gimme Gimme Gimme (A Man After Midnight)", this sample can be easily percieved on the song and has a very positive nostalgic effect but, Madonna and producer Stuart Prices (Jacques Le Cont) also made this sample their own, adding a unique flavor to the song. It's a VERY catchy song but at the same time it doesn't feels like "chewing bubble gum".

Make no mistake, this IS Madonna at her best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ring, Ring, Ring.....Dance, November 22, 2005

First, let me say you should buy "Confessions On A Dance Floor" because it is definately one of Madonna's all-time best!

Now, for the "Hung Up" remixes, they're excellent. The SDP Extended Vocal mix is one of the best remixes ever done. It takes the original and doesn't mess it up. Remember, "Hung Up" is already a dance song that's great for the clubs so there is no reason to over mix it.

I love the fact that Madonna uses so many different remixers and doesn't just stick with one for every song. That's the case here with her using remixers Chus & Ceballos from Spain. There take on the song is almost early 90's feeling. It's a nice breath of fresh air!

The only dissapointment is the Tracy Young mix, which is only a radio edit, it just leaves you wanting more (maybe that's what Madonna intended). I wish it was the full extended mix but keep your fingers crossed and maybe it will be released on a future maxi single.

Don't forget about "Confessions On A Dance Floor", you won't regret it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Madonna is back on the dance floor......YES., November 18, 2005
This review is from: Hung Up (Audio CD)
To start "Hung Up" is a totally hot song with 70's ABBA as background. This song is so dance music. Anyone who listened to Madonna in the early years in the 80's will appreciate this album. We get to finally hear new music from Madonna that sounds and feels like that familiar 80's sound with a touch of today. Good job Madonna !! Your have given your faithful fans what they have always loved. Dance music sung by Madonna....welcome back to the dance floor.

4.0 out of 5 stars good song., November 8, 2005

Hung Up is a catchy and the sound engineering is excellent. This is a fun song that isn't controversial or political or serious or sexual in theme. It's nice 2 know she is still around after everyone doubted here as having no talent from critics, consumers, and other musical artists. I remember Whitney Houston trashing Madonna so bad as having no talent and a sex deviant. Hello Madonna writes all her songs and Whitney doesn't. A Whitney can't dance and let alone sing live. Whitney just stands there and still can't sing live. The Bodyguard was her most successful album and all the songs on it were cover songs from other artists. I Will Always Love You by Dolly Parton not Whitney's. I guess Madonna is geting the last laugh and that crackhead Whitney is finally hushing her mouth. And Whitney has no respect for fans. I'm sorry but anyone who doesn't write their own songs is a studio creation and Whitney is one of them.
And it's nice to know Madonna is still up to par with all the laden laced MTV rap hip hop 50 cent, Eminem, Ludacris, Kanye West ghetto artists. I'm not into rap but i respect them. But i hate when rappers always trashing pop and rock and country music when they become competition. At least all these genre artists can sing. And for all consumers who listen to rap, good for you but don't call someone a freak, wierdo, a loser, a fagg*t, if people don't listen to the genre.

5.0 out of 5 stars A stunning Lead single for an exceptional New Album, November 17, 2005
By
This review is from: Hung Up (Audio CD)
Hung up can be best described as nostalgic bliss, that will transport you back to the time of platform boots and flares. The beat is infectious, and the use of the ABBA sample is pure pop perfection. More importantly, it conjures up the feeling of listening to madonna back in the eighties. You will honestly feel like you have gone back in time.

Her new album,'confessions on a dance floor', is equally as stunning as this single, and is a must-purchase for 2005. it is truly a masterpiece all the way through, and a definate return to form for madonna.

4.0 out of 5 stars Madonna's best club track since "Music", November 17, 2005
By
This review is from: Hung Up (Audio CD)
"Hung Up" marks a turning point in Madonna's career, being the first release with Stuart Price as producer. (Stuart Price was the musical director on her last two tours, and has remixed several artists including Gwen Stefani). "Hung Up" features a loop from the ABBA hit "Gimme Gimme Gimme" and marks only the second time that ABBA have granted permission for their music to be sampled. Despite the use of sampling, Madonna makes this track her own - into her most brilliant club and dance floor release since "Music" in 2000. Its also arguably her best pop release since then as well.

The song has gone to #1 worldwide - including most European countries, Australia, and Canada. More notable is where it hasn't gone to #1 - that being pretty much only in the U.S. where radio is saturated with too much R&B and hip-hop to give the song enough of a chance. However, "Hung Up" has gone to #1 on the iTunes chart in the U.S. and of course, the Billboard Dance/Club Chart.

A flashback to the early days of Madonna's career - the original of this track outshines the remixes like with may of her '80s releases. The SDP Extended Vocal and Extended Dub (tracks #2 and #6) are the best mixes on here because they are simply extended mixes that Stuart Price created from the original version of "Hung Up". Gives you a taste for the brilliance of the record - that it doesn't have to be remixed to make it good.

The next two mixes (tracks #3 and #4) are actually stand out club mixes without the ABBA sample.

The Tracy Young "Get Up And Dance Groove Edit" easily beats out Tracy's previous work for Madonna on "Music" and "Don't Tell Me". Overall, its fairly standard club fare with pounding synths and a tribal beat but catchy and original enough to fill the dance floor.

The Bill Hamel Mix (track #4) is probably the most original and strongest of all the remixes. It has a wicked baseline and really brings the vocals out to the forefront. Bill Hamel first made a name for himself with his amazing remix of Seal's "Get It Together", and his great work continues here.

The Chus & Ceballos mix (track #5) is basically a throwaway IMO. It overrides the vocals over a rather dull and uninspired drum loop. Quite disappointing.

Two other "official" mixes are also floating around. The L.E.X. and Eddie X mixes are both very, very good. However, you will have to acquire these through "other means". For some reason the record company declined to include either these or the full version of Tracy Young's mix on the single. My question is - what is the point in leaving them off when singles sell only 5000 copies anyway?

Don't forget to check out Madonna's new CD "Confessions On A Dancefloor" - her best CD since at least "Ray Of Light". Most of the CD is even better than "Hung Up".

5.0 out of 5 stars 1985 or 2005 ... Madonna is timeless ... this dance song rocks, November 15, 2005
This review is from: Hung Up (Audio CD)
Ok I'm biased since I've been a fan since Borderline and Hung Up blasts any other dance song on the market. Madonna is an icon whose just smashed all the younger imitations of her. Nothing takes the place of an original. Hung up makes you move, groove, and get lost in time with an eternal living legend.

Never fails to amaze me. Once again an awsome track, and great remixes. I was wondering what she could do to impress her fans, and the answer is here. This track has an 80's feel to it mixed with modern dance music. Absolutely fablous
