This review is from: Hungarian Ceramics from the Zsolnay Manufactory, 1853-2001 (Hardcover)
Having just enjoyed my first visit to Hungary, I became aware for the first time of this wonderful pottery. I first saw it at the flea market near the airport; then bought some at an antique shop near the Budapest Opera House. What I was told about the work of this factory fascinated me so I am glad to now have this beautiful reference book.

A nice book on the history of the Zsolnay Manufactory,
This review is from: Hungarian Ceramics from the Zsolnay Manufactory, 1853-2001 (Hardcover)
This is a valuable book if you are interested in the history of the Zsolnay Manufactory. The Zsolnay family and their manufacture has a unique role in the Hungarian industrialization and in the Hungarian history applied arts, as this manufacture has become one of the best in the world within a few decades starting from virtually nowhere, thanks to the genius of Vilmos Zsolnay and his daughters who attracted numerous first class artists and businessman to work for their manufacture. The book covers the entire history of the manufacture, from the early years together with the historical background up until the contemporary production. The book provides a balanced view since it covers not only the world famous Art Nouveau and Art Deco lustre ceramics, but also the production of the architectural ceramics. The book contains high quality illustrations, but they are not as numerous as one would expect.
