Grade 6-10-These series entries that focus on history are flawed in several ways, but most noticeably in their visual presentations. Many of the photos, particularly those reproduced in black and white, are lacking in clarity or are inadequately captioned. In Hungary, the Danube River is said to be an international waterway with seagoing ships, but there is no mention as to where it enters the sea. In a landlocked country, this is perplexing. Similar problems abound in Yemen. The map in the beginning of the book, particularly the southern shore bordering the Gulf of Aden, fails to show demographic detail. The books are not as attractive nor as readable as their counterparts in the "Enchantment of the World" series (Childrens). Instead, they are apathetic and distant historical narratives that are at times repetitive and inconsistent. While updated information on these countries is needed, these books do not fill the bill.
