John F Montgomery: Hungary, the unwilling Satellite. This informative book was originally printed in 1947. For some reason it was not in circulation until reprinted in 1990. Finally! A true description of the situation in Central Europe during the World War Two era. The US representative who is witnessing the real political talks is writing without bias. Montgomery is present at discussions with Hitler and other representatives of the German government and neighboring states. The governor of Hungary, Miklos Horthy, as refusing demands of the NAZI regime! US representative Montgomery's book is dealing with real meetings and their results. It should be a pivotal book in learning about WW II. The real situations and abuses of powers after the end of WW II in Soviet block Europe is to say the least - shocking. This book points to the fact that western representatives came to an agreement with Hungary to capitulate and join the Western Alliance. Stalin's rejection in Quebec Conference was overturning this pact. The war could have been ended much sooner thus not requiring additional sacrifices, including D-day. (Pgs. 161 - 163)
