This review is from: Hungry for Kicks: Singles & Choice Cuts 1965-69 (Audio CD)
Top this day, and 40 years past their heyday, Paul Revere and the Raiders are given absolutely no respect by the rock and roll public. Was it their funny Revolutionary War outfits, their comic persona, or their pop hits that doomed them? One listen to the current Rev Ola release Hungry for Kicks: Singles & Choice Cuts 1965-69 will tell you that it certainly wasn't the music. The disk gives a multi-cut perspective on the most hit-prolific years of the band, when they were on national TV constantly and churning out hit after hit. Their albums were also pop goldmines, and several album tracks are included here. The set is not in chronological order, so you will get the earlier pop/rock stuff mixed in with their later pop/rock/country tunes. And these are mainly singles tracks--the Raiders were one of the first acts to have separate, but not nearly equal, album and single tracks for certain songs--so you will hear basically what was played on AM radio way back when. You can't argue with the selection of songs--all their main hits are here--but those looking for "Indian Reservation" won't find it here, as that became their only #1 hit in 1970. Otherwise, you'll get "Kicks," "Hungry," "Good Thing," and "Let Me," or songs that set the template for bands like Van Halen. Run, don't walk to the nearest venue where you can get this. Why aren't the Raiders fully respected? I don't know, but their music will get your full attention.

A good selection of songs, great sound quality. Nice and "heavy". Well produced with good sound separation. Party!

All of the hits, near hits, rarities and more are included on this disc. Paul Revere and the Raiders were the biggest and best American pop band out there for a 3 year stretch and you get them all on this disc. Enjoy!
