Book Description

Yay! a camping trip makes great memories! Many will center around food, as both familiar and novel meals are produced like magic, without even a kitchen stove! Kids will be amazed at what they can make, and what adults pull together for them to enjoy. Simple foods can be good and fancy. There is no reason to sacrifice nutrition for good taste! Sure, kids will enjoy hot dogs and marshmallows while camping, but how about some Chicken Stir Fry or Really Fast Bean Burritos, too?
These step by step recipes are kid-friendly, but adults will find new favorites, too. Garlicky Shrimp with Asparagus Rafts and Fruit Kebabs are fancy enough to serve for company, not just at camp! Enjoy reading through this book, as inspiration strikes you.

Snacks for those on-the-go days are here, along with a good helping of desserts. Rice Pudding, Pineapple Upside Down Cake, Grilled Peaches... is your mouth watering yet? All are made with wholesome ingredients; no mixes here!

New cooking methods will make delicious memories, including breakfast in a zip-type bag, muffins in orange peels, fish in newspaper, eggs in a paper bag, and blueberry pie in foil. Did you notice that list included no pans to wash?! This book includes simple recipes and some fancy ones, all designed for good nutrition and great memories. Above all, make sure camp food is fun and plentiful---camping makes everybody hungry!

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

As a mom, grandmother, Church youth leader, former Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader, I know my stuff. This book will make your job much easier as you guide young people into loving the outdoors. Easy, nutritious, impressive recipes will make any campout  great, and there's not a canned, boxed, or premade  "meal" to be had here.   You can't beat that sense of accomplishment as they serve up food they prepared themselves. Well-fed kids are happy kids!

Check out my other books, too; there's a lot more wisdom right at hand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun camping food that is quick and easy! August 25, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Grandma recommended this book, so I downloaded, and she is right. It's a must-have for anyone who likes camping.

The author have recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert and snacks. I especially liked "Walking Tacos", which is a taco served in individual bags, complete with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, olives, beans, salsa and sour cream. My kids love all of the ingredients and I cook tacos often while camping. However, this is better because each serving is in it's own bag, with no need to dirty dishes. Love it!

The "Taco Potatoes" sounds like another winner. It's simple, quick and a complete meal in a potato. Yep, I love to cook for the campfire, but am not fond of washing a lot of dishes.

I'm going to try the campfire pineapple upside down cake. It sounds easy and delicious. It will be fun to have dessert cooked over the fire.

The "Flaming Hot Dog" recipe sounds spectacular, and a will be a real treat for kids. The book is full of fun recipes, all tailored to youngsters.

Thanks for taking the time to read my review, and I hope you found it helpful in making a purchase decision.

More About the Author

I currently live in Western WA, where the rainy weather makes me want to travel~! I've explored all fifty US states, and beyond, and I could be packed and ready to go again in minutes. It's a genetic trait; the women in my family for generations have loved to travel. We call it the "gypsy gene." I really am married to the Cruise Addict, and we have at least 4 cruises scheduled at any given time. Read "Tips From The Cruise Addict's Wife"--I know what I'm talking about!

As I prepared to write my first book, "Tips From The Cruise Addict's Wife," I realized I know more than most travelers. Like that old poster: Those who think they know it all are annoying those of us who do.I think it's because I have a fear of missing something wonderful, so I prepare and plan. Here I share my tips and things to make your trip easier, and better! Let me help you plan your cruise---you'll be the most informed person on the ship!

The other books came from my love of cooking, and children. I read cookbooks like novels, right on through, but seldom follow a recipe as written. Food is a creative medium, made for playing with and experimentation. A source of pride is that all of my grown kids are the primary cooks in their families, and darn good ones, too!

I'm a mom, grandmother, former cub scout and Girl Scout leader, and I've headed up the 75+ strong Church children's group for years. I know and love kids, and I find thier creativity and energery endlessly entertaining. The most important thing is my family, who have stories of their own, mostly of packing and going on the road again.
