This book is an excellent source for information on the Elk, Elk habitat and Elk hunting. Jim Zumbo is an excellent author as well as an Elk hunter. If you are going to go Elk hunting, it is well worth reading it. It has hundreds of tips on how and where elk live, eat, and sleep in different weather conditions. It covers their habits and life styles.

A very good overview of the sport from one of the masters. Very well written and well organized. While most of the material remains fresh, the book is looking dated as newer developments in the field (artificial scents, etc.) are not explored.

I bought this book wanting to learn about elk and elk hunting from a beginner's standpoint - I was not disappointed. Perhaps a bit too basic for some hunters, this book is a great guide for getting started in elk hunting. Inclusive of most areas of concern beginning hunters might have when starting a quest for elk (rifles, where to go, tactics, etc.), it doesn't offer deep analysis of any one topic but rather offers a framework from which to build upon with other books. Overall a great read despite Mr. Zumbo's recent folly regarding his anti-gun statements.

I bought this book a few years ago and it has lots of great information on elk, their habits, and how to find them. I used many of Mr. Zumbo's tips to bag my first elk -- a nice 7X6 bull. The book is an excellent source for information with many, many tips on the when, where, and how to find elk.
I guess I really don't understand why the previous reviewer -- someone from New York who undoubtedly has never read this book -- decided to use a book review to personally attack Mr. Zumbo.
