5.0 out of 5 stars Great Entertainment
While I concur with some of the negaive comments, I found the book to be over all very entertaining and a quick read. Yes there are plenty of stereotypes and I could have used more about the horses and more hunting...but it is a fast paced story with a good hook right from the start. The dangling ending was cheesey but I was glad that it meant another book was coming...

2.0 out of 5 stars Wooden Characters Need Something to Do - How About Hunting?
This book would benefit from more hunting action (see Rita Mae Brown's Outfoxed for an example), and characters that are less wooden and featureless. Snooty Bachelor Doug, Ice Queen Lawyer Anne (as a woman lawyer I am particularly sick of this sterotype), adorable, smarmy little girl add up to a snooze of a plot. Even Doug's horses are devoid of personality. If we...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excited about such a great new author!, November 10, 2003
By A Customer
I do not know much about fox-hunting, but I found that that did not make a difference when reading this book because Neuharth explains the hunting 'terminology' in a wonderful way that totally clued me in. I was recommended this book by a friend, and I read it all in one night. I could not put it down, it was suspenseful, thrilling, and realistic. This book would make a good movie, (and I'm surprised one isn't already planned) because there is never a dull moment. You don't have to read very far to reach action, and this book not only had mystery book qualities, but it could be put under a romance genre for the sub-story romantic plot line. This is a great book, and I would highly recomend it to anyone who may not know everything about fox-hunting, but is looking for a wonderful edge-of-your-seat thriller.

5.0 out of 5 stars Involving to the very last page, September 15, 2003
The Hunt by Jan Neuhart is an thoroughly enthralling, superbly crafted mystery novel of a successful lawyer and horseman who is framed for a vicious double murder. Doug Cummings is forced to race against time to find the culprit and protect his loved ones when even his own attorney doesn't believe his innocence! Very highly recommended reading for the mystery/suspense enthusiast, The Hunt presents life in the upper crust as far less idyllic than would first appear, with hidden jealousies and resentments steaming beneath the tranquil atmosphere. Involving to the very last page.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read!, October 13, 2004

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It has a fast paced plot and short chapters (which I love)and I had a hard time putting it down. In fact,I started the book at bedtime and ended up staying awake reading until 3:00 am! I enjoyed the characters (especially Doug)and even though I don't know much about foxhunting or the area where the book took place, the characters seemed very real to me. The mystery is full of twists and turns and although I thought I had figured out who had "done it" I was pleased to find that I was wrong. My compliments to the author--I hope another novel is on the way!

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding; "The Hunt" is a work of art, November 10, 2003
This novel is fantastic; I cannot stress how much I enjoyed it! Neuharth's entrancing pennmanship kept me glued to the pages until the wee hours of the morning. If you're only going to buy one novel this year, this is the one. The foxhunting aspects are portrayed extremely accurately, and the mystery and intrigue will grab you and not let go! The Hunt is the best book I have ever read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mrs. Neuharth's biggest fan!, January 17, 2007
This review is from: The Hunt: A Novel (Hunt Country Suspense) (Paperback)
I live in VA and have horses. It's only natural for me to collect novels written about our heritage of hunting. But - I also love a good and well written novel and this is one of them! I came back to Amazon to hopefully find a second novel by Jan and I'm excited that there is one! Her writing is in depth, accurate, exciting and her characters are believable. Keep writing and I'll keep reading!!
