4.0 out of 5 stars Generally a good and entertaining novel.
Although I disliked the numerous characters to keep up with and constant shifting of the viewpoints, the novel was an entertaining read. The grammar was simplistic, but that makes it easy to follow. Excellent for those interested in the outdoors, hunting, survival, etc. As with almost all William Johnstone books, this novel has a good pro-gun, pro-freedom, grassroots...

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing overall.
The storyline of Hunted is terrific and the characters are fascinating. The book was bogged down though over and over by the author's views of government and politics. While we all have our opinions and concerns of today's government and the restrictions being put on us as citizens, Johnstone just crammed his down our throats. Although I disliked the numerous characters to keep up with and constant shifting of the viewpoints, the novel was an entertaining read. The grammar was simplistic, but that makes it easy to follow. Excellent for those interested in the outdoors, hunting, survival, etc. As with almost all William Johnstone books, this novel has a good pro-gun, pro-freedom, grassroots appeal. Although a work of fiction, the story contains many facts and can definately open one's eyes to the ugly truths regarding our Government, the system we live under, and the danger of tyranny and the disarming of the American people. It is surprising how quickly we all can loose the freedom that our ancestors fought and died for.

4.0 out of 5 stars BETTER THAN USUAL JOHNSTONE WORK, September 15, 2005

THE HUNTED IS A DIFFERENT TURN FOR WILLIAM W. JOHNSTONE. ALTHOUGH HE HAS DONE THE WHAT IF IN THE "ASHES" SERIES, HE HASN'T DONE A SCIENCE FICTION/OCCULT BOOK BEFORE (TO MY KNOWLEDGE). ALTHOUGH THE SHAPECHANGING OF THE MAIN CHARACTER IS PRESENT THOUGH, HIS STANDARD RHETORIC ABOUT THE BIG BAD FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IS ALSO PRESENT. HIS WORK SUCH AS "THE HUNTED" IS VERY GOOD WHEN HE ISN'T JUST REPEATING HIMSELF FROM PREVIOUS BOOKS.

BY THE WAY IF YOU DO BUY AND LIKE "THE HUNTED" YOU SHOULD BUY "THE PREY", A SEQUEL TO THIS BOOK. IT IS ALSO VERY WELL DONE.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the most excellent books I've ever read!, November 26, 1996

This review is from: Hunted (Paperback)
When I first started to read this book it had me interested by the first ten pages. Another ten pages and I was hooked. This book was so good I read it twice the same night I got it. I really can't do this book justice simply by words its compelling and exciting and it holds the reader like no book I've ever read or heard of. Its all these things and so much more.I would recommend this book to everyone. The Hunted was the first book I'd read by William W. Johnstone and because of it I try to get as many books of his as possible

4.0 out of 5 stars VERY GOOD BOOK, September 14, 2000

A GOOD BOOK WITH A REALISTIC DESCIPTION OF THE GOVERNMENT. ANYONE WHO DOES NOT AGREE, HAS NEVER HEARD OF RUBY RIDGE AND THE BRANCH DAVIDIANS IN WACO. TO THIS DAY THERE HAS BEEN A COVER UP BY THOSE IN THE GOVERNMENT ABOUT THOSE INCIDENTS JUST TO NAME TWO.

This book isn't scary like some of his other ones, but it's still interesting. If you like the author then you will like the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hunted worked for me., March 8, 2007

I enjoyed this book so much that I read it a second time. I read it the first time several years ago. I'm really surprised that the author doesn't get investigated by our Government because he does have a way of hitting the problems on the head. As usual, there are always a**holes who have a way of over reacting. The hero has a way of helping but I have yet to figure out WHO he really is along with the Others out there like him. Why are some good and some bad?

For anyone not satisfied with the government, this is a really good read from beginning to end.

1.0 out of 5 stars Lon Chaney meets the Highlander, September 1, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Hunted (Paperback)
"Hunted" is my first exposure to Mr. Johnstone's work. The book centers on Darry Ransom, an immortal lycanthrope. Ransom is the only mildly interesting character in the novel... the rest are either government jackboots or freedom-loving patriots. The action centers on a government massacre (and coverup) and the reaction of "right thinking" Americans including Ransom. Normally, I like a well-written, pulp adventure novel. The problem with "Hunted" is not the heavy-handed political rhetoric... it is the writing. The clunky dialogue, predictable plot turns and comic book characters make this novel a painful read.

2.0 out of 5 stars VERY MISLEADING!!!!!, November 24, 2001
By
This review is from: Hunted (Paperback)
The back cover of a book usually tells what a book is about, but not it this case. It is about a man who is over 700 years old and cannot be killed. He can turn from a man into a wolf and back into a man again when ever he wants. Many, many people are sent to find him, to many people to keep up with--very confusing. The main thrust of the book is the screw up of the federal government in the way the affair is handled. This may happen quite a bit but I don't need Johnstone to tell be about it in a book that is supposed to be about something else. I quite reading the Mountain Man series and The Last Gunfighter Series because each book was about half filled with what had happened in a previous book. Think I will quit reading Johnston all together. He will never know it and will continue to publish many, many books and make mucho dinero. I would not advise anyone to buy any of the Johnstone books except the early Mountain Man books or the Preacher books. They were so good.
