4.0 out of 5 stars Nice and bright; great for "older" homes

2.0 out of 5 stars "Uses 3 60-watt bulbs" SURPRISE SURPRISE
The fan itself is fine, but the BULB SOCKETS ARE TINY. I was all set to put in my energy-saver compact fluorescent bulbs when I discovered they wouldn't fit, nor will normal bulbs. The fan comes with 3 flame-shaped bulbs fitted to tiny sockets. Did I miss this info here? It's also not on Hunter's own page and PDFs for this model.

I desperately needed a new fan for my the nursery. We moved into a 40-year old house with the cheapest ceiling fans known to man. Since we don't have air conditioning, we really need our fans to work in the summer. The old fan finally broke and I went online to find something that was neutral but also bright. One thing I know I didn't want was a globe light because the chains pulls clang against the glass, especially if the fan gets off-balance even a little. The other thing I had to consider was how the fan mounted to the ceiling. Since our house was built more than 20 years ago, we don't have 9 foot ceilings--they are 8 feet. Most ceiling fans I found looked great but would hang far too low for us. And ceiling hugger fans are usually just that--fans only, and if they do have a light, it's a globe light.

Then I found this one. First, I like the fact that it has three lights to light up the whole room and not one globe "spotlight". Second, you can install the fan at several different heights which is an option I don't see on many lower-end ceiling fans, and believe me, I've looked. Third, I like the fact that if I want to change the look, I can turn the blades around. And I like the brushed nickel, much classier than the cheap gold look of the other fans we've had.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Fan, November 24, 2008
I ordered the Hunter brand due to its reputation. I was not disappointed. The fan was easy to install and it is very quiet. It looks good whether running (no wobbling) or not.

5.0 out of 5 stars Efficient, economic ceiling fan, May 11, 2009

This is our third Hunter Fan replacing our old ceiling fans which were bought years ago. Our first two Hunter fans fit standard energy efficient bulbs but that style of ceiling fan wouldn't work in our third room. Now that energy efficient candelabra bulbs are available, we were ready for this style of fan. The Hunter quality is high and the fan installed easily (took about one hour not including removing the old fan). It really moves the air which will help our stuffy apartment a lot during the summer. This is a great value worth the extra money over the no-name ceiling fans you might find in a chain store.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hunter 42" Ceiling Fan in Antique Brass, September 7, 2008

We have 4 other Hunter Ceiling Fans in our home and know that they are a good quality, quiet fan. We had trouble finding the antique brass finish this time, so we searched through Amazon and found the fan we wanted for our breakfast room at a cheaper price than through the stores. The new fan arrived within a week and was installed by the following weekend with no major problems. We have been enjoying it ever since.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classy fan, right price, May 12, 2008
After doing some research for a ceiling fan for out newly remodeled home, I came across this model. For the price, you can't beat the quality. It is super quiet, moves alot of air and looks great. The paddles are reversible to match your liking. I suggest using energy efficient (CFL) candelabra base bulbs instead of the regular bulbs it calls for, makes it look intresting plus saves on the $$ in the long run.

4.0 out of 5 stars Two for Three, September 14, 2009

Ordered two of these fans for my sun room to replace the existing recessed can lights. I used can converters which worked out very well but on hanging the ceiling fans I discovered that the motor unit on one fan was faulty (harsh contact between the motor and housing). Hunter promptly sent a replacement fan and all was well. Once installed I noticed that both fans were making a slight humming noise at low speed (which is not present on another Beacon Hill fan I have in the house) and with both fans in the same room this was more noticeable than if they had been in separate rooms. As a consequence I ran the fans at higher speed as the hum was less obvious. Update: I discovered that the humming noises were associated with a rheostat two-way switch that was used for the original recessed lights and replacing the switch with a standard two-way switch has resolved the issue. The fans continue to perform very well and are nice looking and well-constructed.

4.0 out of 5 stars good basic fan, August 28, 2009
By
We live in Washington and don't have air conditioning since we'd only use it about 3 days a year. This ceiling fan in the bedroom is all we need. It doesn't have a remote control (yay!)and the cord is too short to reach without a chair so you'll need to replace it with a longer one. Other than that it's great! It's quiet and it moves enough air to cool the room.
