Great fan, tricky install,

Amazon shipped this item me very quickly and I installed it just today. Installation with this fan was trickier than others I had installed. There were too many screws, literally...I had screws left over and I followed the instructions precisely. The install took about 2 hours.
The fan is very quiet, and the light is sufficient. I wish the light could dim, but I knew it couldn't going into it. I'd check the Hunter website and make sure the blades co-ordinate with your existing decor...the website shows the true colors more accurately than Amazon's pictures.

Let me preface this with two items. First, I remodel homes as a hobby and have installed many fans in the past. Second, I have used Hunter products in several previous projects and been happy with them. I don't know what has happened at Hunter, but everything about their products have gone downhill. The instructions are horrible. One example, the drawing of many of the screws do not match what comes with the fan. It almost seems like the assembly instructions were done in another country. On the subject of parts - some were missing. The overall assembly design is also terrible. Finally, the quality of the fan is poor. The remote control is made of crappy plastics and is intermittent. I am so put off by this fan that I gave it away and will never buy another Hunter product.
I absolutely LOVE Amazon and will continue to use them, but I would not recommend buying this type of item from them. Why? Because by the time you realize what a piece of crap this item is you have all 20+ parts unpacked and partially assembled. It is too much of a hassle to get everything back in the box and deal with the hassle of shipping it back. Buy this type of product at Home Depot or Lowes.

I just want to update my review - this fan wasn't working at first, it would come on several times a day by itself, either the light or the fan itself. Hunter sent me out a new part, but that didn't fix it. I called again, and they sent out another part - now the fan is working great now. It's been two full weeks and hasn't come on by itself, so I think it's fixed! The customer service was excellent.
I like the more "modern" look of this fan. I've raised my "stars" rating to 4 since it is working now. It's not a 5 because of the initial problem, and one other design issue I don't like. The way the glass is installed over the light, it's very difficult to take off, as the metal ring with three screws in it holds the glass and needs to be removed, but you need to hold the glass at the same time. It's almost a two person job (on ladders!) to remove this, or you risk dropping the glass. Of course with a flourescent light - I won't need to remove this very often to replace the bulb. Most lights you hold the glass, and remove screws with your fingers. This you need to hold the glass, and a screwdriver at the same time. One other thing to be aware of, the flourescent bulb is one of those rings types, and is quite bright. No dimming available. It doesn't use much power which is good, just be aware it's bright. Overall though, I'm happy with the fan now.

The price was right and I had a favorable opinion of Hunter fans. This one didn't live up to the reputation. Very tough flush-mount install; the receiver quit before I'd had it two months. Hunter replaced the receiver but wouldn't cover my time (or an electrician's) for the installation. The fluorescent bulb is tough to find and expensive to replace, which I've already had to do. I didn't pay close enough attention to the product description: the fan is operated by a remote control. The remote control is finicky and doesn't work half the time. I wouldn't buy again.

I have installed many ceiling fans before and this one is absolutely terrible to install and the instructions could be improved. The whole fan hangs from top cover, so during installation you need to hang fan temporarily from ceiling plate to wire fan motor (3 wires) and receiver (6 wires), then unhook ceiling cover to place it flush on ceiling plate (without pinching any of the 9 cables). Even after finishing, replacing the bulb is a two-person operation since the cover hangs from rim attached with three screws from the sides and you need someone to hold the rim to screw/unscrew without dropping the cover. The fan works well (good light, good air flow) but there are better options for the price range.

This fan cools well, once installed. However, as other reviewers have commented, this fan is poorly engineered compared to comparable competitors fans, in that I used a certified licensed electrician to install my fan, and working with his assistant, it still took them considerable effort and time to install this fan. They both told me this is the first fan they have ever installed that has been this involved for them , and they have installed thousands of ceiling fans over the years. I like using the fan for its cooling effects, but have discarded my plans to outfit the other rooms in my house with this Brand/Model fan, as I had intended when I purchased this fan to try out first. In fact, I am so glad that I purchased just one of these fans first --- since, there is no way in h--, that I'll ever purchase another one or any other hunter fan. And, yes, again as others have commented, on one ocassion this fan has speeded up and turned its light on while I was asleep (and, so, it woked me up); and, on another ocassion, when I had turned the fan off using its remote ---- when, I returned home, later the same day, I found this fan was running at high speed as it had turned itself on; my solution for this problem, is that whenever I don 't want the fan to turn itself on, I simply turn it off at the wall switch, instead of with its Remote. A very funny fan, as it cools well; but, obviously is poorly engineered in a way that it's totally unreliable in my opinion. Family, friends, colleagues, and neighbors, all agree with me that a company with Hunter's past history of being a leader in ceiling fans, should be shocked at the poor overall reliability/operation of this fan.

My expectations were high that this replacement fan would be almost silent. However there is still a definite humming sound that gets really annoying when there is no noise around. This happens at the lowest speed setting. I checked the support system in the ceiling and could not find the reason for this problem, it has to come from the motor itself.
At such a price, I was expecting more from a Hunter fan. It looks good, but at dark when you're trying to sleep, the noise is more important than the look. I need 4 more fans and won't be buying Hunter anymore.

I wanted something that fit the decor of my house and it had to be EnergyStar rated! It's just the principle of it. This fan is fine overall -- looks nice and creates great air flow.
Two problems: 1) The light bulb was horrible. It made me feel like I was in the morgue. I went to Home Depot and found a replacement (soft white) and that changed everything. 2) The fan was rather difficult to install. The fan is heavy and bulky. There were so many wires. The instructions were not the most intuitive. It took 2 hours to install by 2 people. I know that this can be made much simpler because the MinkaAire fan (also EnergyStar) only took half the time to install and had fewer components and miscellaneous wires. Overall, I would recommend it because it is so hard to find a good EnergyStar fan that doesn't look like it belongs in a warehouse.

I purchased this fan hesitantly because I was really not sure what to expect due to the reviews. I LOVE this fan! The bronze looks awesome with the mahogany colored blades. We rarely use the light but if we do its more like flourescent and it does give a lot of light. We hired an electrician to install it and because our condo is so old (joists are 9" on center instaed of 16" on center) it took him about 4 hours. Once installed though it looks awesome. The fan speeds are great and it moves the AC'd air around well. I would highly recommend this fan!
