Most reviews are of limited value. They are written and posted shortly after the time of purchase. Therefore durability, a very important factor, is ignored. I had two outdoor but covered and rain-free Hunter Original Fans which were replaced after only 6 years due to corrosion and environmental degradation. The Hunter Lifetime warranty was useless. (In fairness, the nine indoor Hunter Originals installed in 1992 have performed perfectly.)

Since Hunter would not honor the warranty for the Originals and told me I should have installed their outdoor fans, I selected the Sea Air model as replacements. Now, one would think that they would be constructed of materials that would not degrade with outdoor installation. However, within one year the white finish on the housing began to rust. They were both an eyesore by three years. One had a blade snap off at 11 years and the other is still in use at 13. However, as I said, they have been rusty looking for 10 of those years.

I've just installed this ceiling fan on a patio with a fairly low roof and it fit well in that space. The blades are only about 9 or 10 inches down from the ceiling.

Installation wasn't too difficult but the Neoprene covering around the mounting plate did make it a little difficult to put in the screws.

The fan did not wobble even on the highest speed and it did put out a fair amount of breeze on high.
It was not as much breeze as an industrial metal fan but it is acceptable for its location.

The color depicted in the pictures on this page (as of May 15 2006) is not the color of this fan. It is more of a reddish-bronze brick color.
The blades on this fan are plastic with a wood finish instead of real wood. For me that's good because I wanted it for outside and the plastic blades should hold up well.

I love Hunter Fans! This one was a replacement for an older model that was damaged by a contractor. This fan is easy to install, whisper quiet, and looks great. I installed this fan on my screened porch, and it has been providing us with quiet cool all summer long. One thing to note - since it is made for outdoor installation, the fan has a visible white rubber gasket that sits between the ceiling and the fan's collar to keep water from getting down into the fan. If you don't like the way the gasket looks and your installation is not truly outside, you don't have to install the gasket. Overall, a great fan that mounts flush with the ceiling. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a flush-mount fan for outdoor installation. Well worth the money, so go ahead and take the plunge!

This is a nice looking, well made fan. I was concerned about buying this, or any other fan, because I have a sloped ceiling (only 1.5" in 12") and I couldn't tell from specs whether this would mount with the short down-rod (supplied) properly on a pitched ceiling. I wanted to use the short downrod due to limited ceiling height. No problem - the fan mounted fine with the short rod. It is quiet & moves air well - I am using in a 3 season porch 12x20.

I bought 2 fans 2 years ago for my back porch on a barrier island in Florida (not in Leawood, KS). The fans were easy to install and had very little vibration even at the highest speeds. They've been great on those rare still evenings when the breeze isn't adequate to keep the heat or mosquitoes at bay. I have had a couple of problems. First, the pull chains are not stainless steel and I've had to replace them due to corrosion. Plan to spray a little sealant on the chain periodically to avoid this inconvenience. Second, the paint on the aluminum blade irons (the piece that connects the fan blades to the fan motor assembly) has started flaking off and leaving exposed aluminum. Applying an extra coat of clear sealant before installing the blades would be a good idea. As I said, I'm on a barrier island and everything corrodes rather quickly here. Finally, be prepared to remove the blades if you expect high winds. I was out of town this last Sunday when we had some 50mph gusts and one of the blade irons snapped. The new set of blade irons (they only come in sets) costs almost $50 to have delivered from Hunter. In sum, pretty good fan but they cut some corners to keep it cheap, so its salt tolerance is relatively low.

I was skeptical because of the price. This fan carries the Hunter name, but definitely not the Hunter quality we have become accustomed. Cheaper hanging mechanism than others which allows the fan to tilt. Does not move the amount of air as other Hunter fans we own. Would not reccomend.

... by buying two of these here instead of a box store. We did, and had them installed by a good electrician. The fans are wider than the two in our lanai that they replaced, and move considerably more air. One tip -- these don't come with the (12-inch) downcomer rod that you need to separate them from the ceiling / connection box where you hang them, so make sure you order one of those per fan, as well, in a matching finish.

Installation instructions were adequate, installation was simple, the fan is virtually silent and is effective. The other Hunters I have owned have run for many years and are still running fine. I don't know what more I could ask for except a good price and good service, and I bought this one on sale at the lowest price I have seen and it was delivered very quickly in perfect condition.
