I installed this remote along with my new Hunter fan, and it worked well for about a year.

Then I started noticing that the light or the fan would start turning on by themselves. At first it was just a rare event, but then it became more and more frequent. Now the fan and the light are on just about all the time. I turn them off--but within a few hours they turn on again. What an annoyance.

This thing disables your wall switches, which makes this completely pointless. The remote is only a couple inches a long and I guarantee you'll lose it at some point. Once you lose it, you are screwed because you won't get your lights back on without uninstalling the receiver. Also, the instructions for this were completely ridiculous. So I say forget it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worse than useless, October 8, 2010

As others have pointed out, this control disables your wall switch. It would have been really easy for Hunter to design it to turn the fan and/or light ON when the wall switch is turned on - after all, if you're turning the wall switch on, you probably want the lights or fan on, right? But no - after turning the wall switch on you then have to find the remote (sometimes in the dark) and turn that on too. The instructions recommend just leaving the wall switch on all the time, but that's impractical for several reasons. First, the remote control box in the wall switch then becomes an "energy vampire", using up your electricity 24/7. Second, wall light switches are almost always mounted by doors so you don't have to search for them in a dark room - this remote completly defeats that purpose.

This was also a pain to install - the control box did not fit inside the fan cowling as advertised; it took a lot for wire jiggling and pushing (while perched on a 20 foot step ladder - NOT FUN!) to get it installed inside.

Having used this a few days, I think I'm going to take it out, throw it in the trash, and just use the wall switch; or buy a better designed remote. The only thing stopping me is I'll have to go up that ladder again. What a waste of time and money.
