Contemporary brushed nickel finish fan with five reversible blades (view larger).

Offering comfort and craftsmanship in a clean urban style, the Fremont low-profile, 52-inch fan from Hunter (model 28700) features a bronze finish that's complemented by five reversible blades in dark maple and walnut. It's complemented by a light fixture with a simple toffee glass that uses two 60-watt candelabra incandescent bulbs (included).

With its low profile canopy, the Fremont can be used with a ceiling height of 8 feet and lower, and it can be installed without the light kit if desired. Hunter's patented anti-vibration technology featuring the unique triangular hanger ball system reduces torque for wobble free performance.

Dust Armor Nanotechnology Blade Coating

One of the biggest complaints with ceiling fans is having to clean dusty fan blades and the unsightliness of having extremely dusty blades in an otherwise clean home. After years of research, Hunger has formulated a blade coating that helps to repel dust build up through a breakthrough nanotechnology.

Fan blades with Hunter's Dust Armor blade coating have a layer of nano particles that repel small moisture molecules. Dust particles gather to water molecules and when the density of the dust/water particles is low enough, light air currents blow the combined particle away from the surface.

The fan operates and the light works after 2.5 hour installation. I've done many home projects and found these instructions to be the worst I can remember. There are errors and omissions that lead to multiple reworks. I may enjoy the fan more after getting over the frustration of dealing with the instructions. If you buy this fan be careful to identify parts by picture as some screws have the same name, but different application. When wiring, just connect both the black and the black/white striped wires to your black lead from the ceiling. Be sure to thread your fan pull chain through the grommet on the metal disk (not in instructions) or it will bind on the glass globe.

Should have heeded the reviews here. This fan leaves much to be desired in terms of ease-of-install. If you would like to waste 2-3 hours of your day and unwittingly teach your kids new vocabulary in the process, then this fan is for you! From woefully inadequate bracket screws to vague wiring instructions, this fan is sure to delight the the do-it-yourselfer in ways never thought possible. If you are bored and looking for some good old-fashioned aggravation, try installing this fan, you'll be as pleased as I was. Oh, and by the way, once you've scared everyone in the house into hiding, this fan does work pretty well.

I have installed many ceiling fans and needed to replace two in my home. I chose Hunter because of the "quiet" motor advertisement. After 6 hours of trying to install this 2 fans, I simply could not get the light to work - the fan worked fine. I called Hunter and was on hold for nearly a half hour. It kept advising me to leave a message or keep on the line for the next available agent. I finally sucumbed to leaving a message. After three days of no return call, I got an electrician to come over and get the lights to work - $199! Come to find out the Hunter instructions do not allow for older home wiring - my home is 1951. After 5 days Hunter did return my call but the agent leaving the message was less than polite with no appology for the delay. Buyer beware of really bad Hunter service if you plan to hook this fan up in an older home. The fan works great and is truly very quiet. I give it 3 stars due to bad service.

I received the fan from Amazon promptly. I had installed other fans previously, so I installed it myself. The instructions are good, and I didn't have any major problems; but its not simple (2 hours for me). I turned it on, and it ran on my first try; unfortunately, it wobbled badly on all but the lowest speed. I followed the balancing instructions and worked for about 2 more hours, but I was unable to eliminate the severe wobble.

In desperation, I disassembled the fan down to the point were I had the 5 blade assemblies in hand. I then used my precision kitchen balance to weigh each blade; they were all identical (no clues there). I next weighed just the tip end of each blade, placing the heavier, metal central end on a table with the blade positioned horizontally. The tip ends varied in weight between 7 and 8 1/8 ounces each. The 3 balancing pads provided weigh only 1/3 oz each. I then reattached the blades to the motor, making sure that the heaviest ones were not located next to one another. I turned it on and ... SUCCESS. It now runs with only very minor wobble, even at the highest speed.

The fan looks good and it now moves lots of air, but the balance problem may be difficult to solve without a sensitive scale and a systematic approach to assembly.

Hunter makes a great product and I have hung several models recently in a home that we purchased last year.

I gave this fan 4 stars because the install is a bit more difficult given it is a low profile design.

If you are looking for a good quality, low profile fan with a decent light (2 x 60 watt bulbs, will work on a dimmer as well) then this is a great buy on Amazon but be sure to set aside some quality time for the install (I usually mix a drink to get started and then mix another at the end but I had to take a break halfway through and mix another with this one).

The new mounting brackets that Hunter is using are different than the old ones so you cannot simply lift the old fan out of the existing bracket and then slide the new one into place. You can utilize the existing screws with the new bracket so not really a big deal but it will be a surprise to some that are expecting to use the old bracket.

There are three rubber grommets on each fan blade that help to set the mounting screws into the blade. This is a good design but again, it is new and takes time to master. Be careful when pushing them through as the finish on the blades can easily chip away if you are using any type of tool to get them through.

Again, the fan quality is superior and it looks/runs great but be ready for a longer install time or simply hire someone else to handle it..!!!

The product was delivered within 4 days from order. Assembly took almost 2 hours. One word of wisdom, if you are planning to install a digital fan and light control do not install fan components until you have dimmer on hand. There is a module that needs to be installed at the base that needs to be done upfront. Slight wobble but can live with it. Have 2 installed in master bedroom.
