5.0 out of 5 stars It works for me....
I have had this humidifier for 3 years and it works great. No mechanical failures of any kind. It is pretty loud on the highest setting, but I run it at night on high, and during the day on low. It is easy to clean, and I have never had to buy a filter, which has saved me a ton.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hunter Humidifier
Having read the reviews I am not sure I would buy this unit online. But I did by mine online from Costco. I use mine 24/7 and regarding cleaning I have had not problem. I also get the amount of water in the air I ask for. I have had this unit going 7months with no problems. The amount of noise for the high is fine. I have soft water but I still use the water cleaner...

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Too Bad..., January 1, 2006

I've been looking for a humidifier that actually WORKS, isn't too loud or requires a ton of maintenance, and doesn't emit that annoying "white dust" that plagues the ultrasonic models... I purchased this unit back in early November and so far so good. The unit is a little noisy on the high setting, but nothing too loud as to interrupt your hearing. The maintenance is a breeze too. I do have a water softener where I live, so maybe that's why it's so much easier to keep clean than previous models I owned. I used to have a Holmes "warm-mist" humidifier that died after a year, and I found the old "drum" style humidifiers I grew up with were a pain in the ass to keep clean. The unit is attractive and easy to use. Just fill the reservoir tank and turn it on. It really is "care free". There is also a humidistat for desired humidity control and two fan speeds. My only complaint is that these units do NOT shut off automatically, so you have to keep your eye on the water tank. Depending on how dry your indoor is, your unit may require frequent refills. One filling does me good for about 3-4 days. In conclusion, not a bad humidifier. I'll post a follow-up in a few months to let you know how it's holding up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hunter Humidifiers, November 26, 2005

I just read the above reviews. Ouch! Maybe I got lucky, I have had 2 running constantly in the winter (Wisconsin) for 2 years now, and no problems. I bought the first one at Sam's club, and the 2nd from Ebay.

I do like the fact that you don't need to buy any additional filters, they are relatively quiet, and they do humidify the air. Just clean it out at the end of the season, and you'll be ok.

My daughter and son-in-law just had a baby, so I was looking for one for the new family when I came across these reviews. I am surprised at the negatives, but that won't deter me from getting another one.

I also get the amount of water in the air I ask for. I have had this unit going 7months with no problems. The amount of noise for the high is fine. My CON: is that you cannot clean the electrical part where the fan brings up the water or anywhere around the motor. I actually have not been able to find a way at all to clean the motor section of the unit. I am also finding that even though I have been rinsing off the water pad it is crumbling away on me. And because you don't need to replace it, I can't replace it. My maching is still working but the pad is begining to smell old and musty and would love to buy another, but am a tad gunshy at this moment.

I did not buy this from Amazon.com. If I had come here and seen reviews for others, I probably would not have done so. I would have gotten a different one. It worked fine--while It worked. It was fairly quiet and easily to fill. I had had it about a month when it just stopped working, nothing seemed to be a problem, but it will not run. I think I will go to a different brand.

2.0 out of 5 stars Model 33288 - The good - The bad, October 7, 2010
This review is from: Hunter 33255 Care Free Humidifierplus 2-1/2-Gallon Humidifier (Kitchen)
The unit does a very good job humidifying the air. It's economical because of the permanent filter. However, as with the last two I owned, several years ago, the motor will not turn after several months of storage. I used this, and the privious units, continuously for 3>4 months. It's got to be mineral build up in the pump (and probably on the drive shaft), which is attached to the motor armature. It would be very difficult to disassemble the pump with damaging the clips which hold it together. And then, how would one clean the shaft and shaft housing.

I like the humidifier. It really works well, when it is working. I live in Ohio and have a filtration system on my home's water system, and my water really isn't that hard. I don't like the idea that you can't service the pump or get to the pump shaft to clean any hardened mineral deposits. Until this is problem resolved, I would not recommend anyone purchasing any of the Hunter humidifiers, with this design.

I thought Hunter makes good products. This unit doesn't work more than one year, I have bought 2 of these last year both of them stop working as of last week. For the 1st one the motor went bad, for the second one the fan went off.

I bought this humidifier last year. Worked fine, no problem. Went to turn it on this year. Nothing. Zippo, zilch, nada. Totally dead. Buyer beware -- these babies are apparently unreliable.

I bought this humidifier at a different store as the reviewer above did. It too also broke down after only a couple of months. Total waste of money!

I'm returning this ASAP. I tried using it in my bedroom and couldn't stand the noise. There's only two settings for the fan. High or Low. Even low was too loud for me. The sound is equivalent to a vortex fan unit. I was thinking if Hunter made ceiling fans then this unit would be quiet. But I was wrong.
