4.0 out of 5 stars Priced well, works as advertised, and simple to install
I'm somewhat amused by the previous review. If you cut yourself twice using simple scissors to open a plastic box, then perhaps home improvement is not your forte. Based on that, I would question the reviewer's credibility, your call.

I'm somewhat amused by the previous review. If you cut yourself twice using simple scissors to open a plastic box, then perhaps home improvement is not your forte. Based on that, I would question the reviewer's credibility, your call.

It was simple to install (less than 10 minutes, comes with stickers to label the wires, and instructions are as good as any you'd expect) and it works as advertised. If you don't need a bunch of bells and whistles (we did not need each day programmed differently) and want an accurate digital reading, I recommend this. The Hunter brand when it comes to fans is stalwart, so I bought this with that in mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inexpensive, and works well, September 10, 2007
This review is from: Hunter 44260 Set and Save Programmable Thermostat (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have installed 2 programmable thermostats, this one and a Honeywell.

I installed the Honeywell in a circa 1950's house, and the Hunter in my girfriend's 2 year old house.

Both have been dependable (approaching 2 years since installation) and easy to install (I'm a home repair moron). Because of the wide variety of ac's, furniture, heat pumps, make sure you read the instructions carefully.

Neither of my installations had a heat pump, so they were relatively straightforward. (If I had a heat pump, I think I would have spent a bit more money and gotten one specifically for that...)

Advantages/Disadvantages-

Honeywell-Easier to program, more intuitive controls, THE name in household control. More Expensive (Paid around $50)

Hunter- More Features (Filter Replacement Reminder is nice), less expensive (around $25). Controls are not as straightforward, but instructions are easily accessible on flip down face plate.

Bottom Line-Both will save you money. I've seen a decrease of about 1/3 in my heating/cooling bills.

I bought this to replace my old non-programmable thermostat and it works flawlessly. The installation was simple and it is not very hard to program.

Not to bad, very good directions. The wiring hook up might get a little tricky if your upgrading a fairly older thermostat but is still doable as it list all the abbriviations and letterings that might be used and provides labels to attach to the wires. Couple draw backs is it does not show the current set temperture, have to press the up/down arrow to see the set temperture. Have hold the arrow for 1.5 seconds to adjust the set temperture which is kind of a hassle when you just want to check it and not change it. When programming it, have to go threw the entire program to get to the one you want to change. Say you to change program 3 for Sunday, you have to go all the way threw the 4 sets for M-F then threw the 4 sets for Saturday just to get to Sunday. You can't just skip M-S and go to Sunday. All are minor but aggrivating the first week or two when your tweaking the settings if you never had a programmable in the first place or your old did not function in this manner.

Not bad at all. The instructions weren't even close for wire labels on my (granted, quite old) thermostat. However, I still managed to get it right after reading some statements about what things NOT to do. Just read it and take your time. After I got it hooked up, it worked awesome, and the batteries are really easy to change. One happy customer.

This unit I think is a good one to start with to find out if a programmable thermostat is for you and your familys particular lifestyle.
If you have someone at home all day that likes to keep the heat up, this may be of no benefit to you, as they are not for everyone.
Its economical construction and one year warrenty, as well as a low price, tell you its not a high quality unit, but its not junk either.
When this one gives up the ghost I plan on purchasing a higher quality unit that will run from my furnaces power, with a battery backup insted of battery only like this unit is.
It was easy to install and works just as its supposed to.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my best buys, November 16, 2010
This review is from: Hunter 44260 Set and Save Programmable Thermostat (Tools & Home Improvement)
Replaced a $80 thermostat with this one and will save much money. The old $80 Honeywell would cycle on and off with very small temperature changes; on and off as many as 6 times per hour.

This thermostat keeps the heater on until the temperature is 1 degree above the set point and does not turn the heater back on until the room temperature is 1 degree below the set point.

I'm very pleased with it.........

Great for the working person. I would highly recommend this thermostat if you love waking to a warm house. I have it set to come on for an hour before the alarm goes on, and off right after I get out of the shower. Great money saver since I used to leave the heat on higher all night not to wake cold. It was easy to install. My boyfriend did it, but had it completed in minutes. Only draw back is, it's programmable for Monday thru Friday. Not sure why I can't get Saturday and Sunday to show since the instruction book show it. Since I'm there to manually adjust on the weekend, it's not the much of an issue.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to Install, Program, Save, December 31, 2005
By
I received this thermostat. Installed it in 15 minutes with the help of my 11-year old (holding a flashlight for me). It's very easy to program and has nice features like instant override if you enter the zone and want the temperature higher or lower. It also has the light when you touch it, but when you don't it's not glowing annoyingly. KB
