Seven-day programmable thermostats are more flexible today but I can't say that one is better than the other one, because I didn't buy them all and check them all out. However, I do know what has worked for me and my family for years and why I am staying with Hunter. After removing thermostats and replacing them with Hunters in the past; there was a good reason ... quality, ease of operation, good support and durability. Consumer Reports (CR) rates (a scoring based on several measurable factors) seven-day programmable thermostats as best to least as follows: LUX, ACE, White Rogers, Hunter, CTC, Robert Shaw, Trane, Honeywell and ICM Controls. I am not a dye-in the wool believer that the best is the best or the least is the least in their ratings but I do read what they have to say and why they say it. This seven-day programmable Hunter is a jewel: ease of installation and setup, back-lit screen (after touching it), menu-driven set of choices for changes, and flexibility to make the unit do what you want it to do. Its good looking, good sized screen and easy to read. You won't believe how easy it is to set up or modify. Oh, yeah, Hunter also lets you disengage the unit from the wall mounting and go sit down somewhere and program it on your lap or at a table so you don't have to stand at the wall and make your entries. It also has a useful setting which turns on the ac/heater fan for several minutes to move air through the house during periods of ac/heater inactivity. The set-up and menu-driven flexibility sells itself ... the results should keep one satisfied for a long time. Read the manual for settings and changes (menu) before you set it up ... remember its flexible. I really like this unit ... check it out.

Bought this unit last July. Easily installed and worked fine until today (Saturday 1/25/14). This morning I noticed the furnace was not working and when I checked the thermostat the numbers on the digital display were continually racing up and down. Reviewed the user manual and pulled the batteries to reset the unit. Did this several times and it still did not work. The entire touch screen was simply not responding to anything. Went to the Hunter website and it stated that technical support was available on Saturday's 11:00am - 4:00pm CST. Called the Hunter technical support line several times and kept getting a recording stating that they were closed and to call back during normal business hours in the week.

Unfortunately, you don't realize how critical of a device a thermostat is until it stops working. I live in the Chicago area and we have had bitterly cold weather and during the writing of this review we are going through yet again another very cold spell. That the Hunter thermostat failed in the middle of winter was bad enough, that their technical support was closed during advertised hours of operation only added insult to an already bad situation. I was forced to go out and buy another thermostat from a competitor.

In summary, the products unreliability and the failure of Hunter to provide technical support during their advertised hours of operation is a black eye for both Hunter and their product.

I spoke with Amazon about the issues I was having with the Hunter thermostat and the technical support problems. Their customer service response and support was outstanding and continues to earn my loyalty.

I have a Hunter 44860 thermostat that is not functioning properly so I wrote to Hunter and this is their response (verbatim):

"We no longer manufacture thermostats. The issue with the relay is not an issue that can be fixed. For units still under warranty we offer a full refund with proof of purchase. You stated your unit is 5 years old. The warranty has expired. The unit will need to be replaced.

For further assistance, please feel free to call our toll free Technical Support Line. The toll free Technical Support number is 1-888-830-1326. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday 8:00am-6:00pm and Saturday 11:00am-4:00pm CST.

Thank you for choosing Hunter Fan Company."

I am really happy with my new thermostat. It was a painless instal. The touch screen works quite well. The menu system is easy to navigate. The program is very easy to setup. It heats my house much more accurately than my old one. Also, it looks good too. I highly recommend this product.

Wanted a thermostat that had a "recirculate" feature. Honeywell sells them - but as you have probably already read - they WILL NOT honor the warranty unless installed & serviced by a contractor.

Hunter sells this 44905 that seemed to fit the bill. Quit after 2 days. Re-installed the Hunter 44360 that had worked for 8 years - - not very fun waking to a house at 52 degrees & having to get the multimeter out for a diagnostic exercise.

As an engineering student, I was told KISS - keep it simple stupid. This also applies to thermostats. After investigating these newer touch-screen models I was VERY apprehensive in buying one, way too many complaints about quality control issues. I work in manufacturing, I'm well aware that "line-speed" - rate of units/minute greatly effects quality. I'd suspect their operational engineer has the line tweaked a little to high in order to impress his/her superior.

PROS: easy to install, can be programmed unplugged from wall, recirculates air for 15mins if the unit senses the system has not been active for 60mins

CONS: Lasted 2 days, only has 3 programmable zones per day (my older model 44360 has 4 zones per day)

Keep the receipt & good luck.

I accidently ordered the wrong one, but after having read all the reviews on this one I was not willing to try it and I took the hit on shipping it back and getting a refund before ever installing it. Please read up on Hunter thermostats before buying one. Hunter does make other good products - but I believe I read they are out (or getting out) of the thermostat business. Good luck.

This is an excellent thermostat for replacement or upgrading your older non-programmable or even a difficult to program thermostat. I first purchased one for my home, then I liked it so much that I purchased 18 more to install in my church, which still had the original Honeywell mercury thermostats from 1965.
It is easy to install (it even comes with a built in level!) and easy to adjust and program. The screen is very basic, making it easy to make temporary changes to the room temperature without confusion, but accessing the schedule and menu options allow you to to make just about any change you would ever need to. It also has a lock screen function with user set passcode, making it great for a public space as it does not require a clear plastic cover to prevent tampering.

I would highly recommend this thermostat to anyone considering an upgrade.

I absolutely LOVE this thermostat! Not only is it easy to program, but it looks awesome! We have had several compliments about it and we couldn't be happier with our choice. It actually looks better in person than it did online.
