This review is from: Hunter 82031 Energy Star Ultra Quite Bathroom Fan, White (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought 2 of these fans and they both met or even exceeded my expectations. They are an easy DIY install because of the well written instructions. And the fans run very quietly. I'd say they sound like a desk fan running on low speed; you can definitely hear it, but you can easily talk over the noise. My only complaint is the square vent (seen in the product picture) is rather large; I'd estimate it's 10" x 13". It would be more aesthetically pleasing if smaller.

I bought this item to add some ventilation to an equipment closet for my home theater.
Installation was straightforward (not easy, but that's just because it involved climbing in the attic, not the product's fault) I have it wired to a thermostat so it will kick on when the room gets too warm. It vents into the next room. The fan is quiet enough that I don't hear it when it is running. In fact, even when I'm in the closet listening for it, it is difficult for me to hear. I have to go into the next room and feel the airflow to know if it is running.

This review is from: Hunter 82031 Energy Star Ultra Quite Bathroom Fan, White (Tools & Home Improvement)
The fan is indeed quiet. It installed easily. It comes with hardware to be able to hang it between the ceiling trusses or to the side of one of them. The instructions for installation are clear (see [...]).The only problem I encountered was that one of the screws that holds the blower assembly into the exhaust housing started slipping before I felt like it was tight enough; I ended up tossing out the two screws that came with it and using a couple of sheet metal screws I had on hand with a slightly larger diameter (the screws tightened into a sheet metal clip), which seemed to hold the blower assembly in place more securely than the screws that came with the fan. Had it not been for this one little issue, I'd have given the fan a 5-star rating. UPDATE 11/16/2011 - I bought two more of these fans. These two fans were not particularly quiet, especially compared to the first fan. They both had an objectionable rumble when they ran. When I looked inside, I could tell why they were loud - the plastic blower blade unit within each fan was badly out of round, wobbling as it was turned by the motor rather than turning smoothly. I sent the two fans back for warranty replacement (shipping at MY expense per Hunter warranty); the replacement fans were reasonably quiet, although still not as quiet as the first fan I bought. If you buy this fan, don't do like I did with my second two fans, waiting until it's too late to return it before trying it out.
