I've been running the older version of this air purifier 24 X 7 for over 10 years...maybe 12. It is backed up against a wall in a vaulted-ceiling room between a piano and organ where cats like to play. It takes up very little space and consumes a great deal of dust and hair. The exhaust blows straight up the wall which is perfect for this location. Recently, it began emitting a high-pitch, undulating squeal. I assumed that the sealed bearing on the motor shaft was wearing out. So, I ordered this new Hunter Air Purifier. In the mean time, I placed the old squeaky cleaner on its back and soaked the motor shaft with CRC Heavy Duty silicone spray while turning the shaft with my hand for 5 minutes. That was a month ago and it is still running as smoothly and quietly as new. The new cleaner is still in the box, however, I did test it to make certain that it was in good working order.

Just like printer companies sell their printers at a bargain and then charge a fortune for the ink cartridges, air-cleaner manufacturers employ the same tactics with their disposable filters. Check their prices. OUCH! $30.00 to $60.00. For years I've been using the same pleated, high-efficiency filters that I use in our central heat and air system. I buy them by the case lot(12), online from ACE Hardware for $4.00 each (free shipping to store) and cut them to fit the Hunter Air Purifier. ACE runs frequent sales.

At Amazon.Com's current price of $9.92 for a carbon pre filter, that's $119.16 per year for each air cleaner if you change prefilters once a month. What if you run multiple units? Two units will cost you $238.43 just for carbon prefilters for one year. 5StarFilter offers a 100' X 24.5" roll for $293.00 which will make 154 filters. That price includes FedEx home delivery. That's enough prefilters for a 6-year supply for 2 units and you pay only $1.90 for each carbon prefilter. Buying 154 prefilters one at a time will cost you $1,529.00. That's a savings of $1,236 over 6 years.

All you have to do is cut off a 15 1/2 inch section. Cut that section in half lengthwise and you have 2 filters. The only downside is that some carbon particles will crumble off when cutting. Cut over newspaper or either outside. It's worth it for me.

Of all the air cleaners running in our home, this Hunter is the least expensive to run 24 X 7 because I can make alternative filters. This is not the case with the large barrel-shaped cleaners that circulate air 360 degrees. When the barrel-shaped air cleaners die, I replace them with these Hunter wall-huggers.

When my back is against the wall, I don't go to the mall. I look for a bargain. That usually begins with Amazon.Com.

I cannot believe what a great job this air purifier does. It is so quite that you forget that it is there. I have asthma and purchased this hoping it would help. At first I thought that it was not working but gradually I started feeling better and the dust (I live in a leaky old house)has gradually dissapeared from the living area. The only drawback is having to clean the filters often but that is easier than dusting ceilings!

I have tried many different types of air purifiers until I got one from Hunter. Initially I got one for the basement so it would not get the musty odor. I liked it so much that I got one for each room in the house. If anyone is allergic to cats, I run the purifier for an hour or two before they come over and they don't react to my cats. Smoke, cooked fish odor, burnt toast etc. These purifiers are awesome. Just be sure to vacuum the outer charcoal filter so the inner filter lasts longer. You will be amazed. I recommend the one with an ionizer-you get the fresh air after a rain smell. 5 stars for sure....

30378 is excellent air cleaner and deodizer. Includes built in ionizer, which i can use for a while then turn off. prefilter comes clean by vacuuming with hand held vacuum-----i need to clean filter about every 2 or 3 days. initially i had to clean prefilter every day.---air smells wonderfully clean. as far as i can see,,hunter 30090 does same thing for about 1/3 cost of 30378. Other observation--Surround Air is more expensive at $180 dollars----but has uv light, nano particles and lots of high ratings. I am happy with quality of holmes 30378---seems to clean about 500 sq ft. if i need another purifier, i will consider permament hepa filter models and uv features and nano particles. FYI----HUNTER CADR(CLEANSING EFFECTIVENESS IS 260/260/260. When i purchased i considered CADR AND ROOM SIZE VERY MUCH.

I purchased this unit as an addition to my psychology waiting room. One of the benefits of running this unit on level 3 (high) is that it makes just enough white noise to muffle the sounds of patients in the examining room. Some psychologists use a special white noise generator - now I can reduce dust in the air and create some privacy. I have run the unit often, and have had no problems whatsoever. I do run the ceiling fans, though, to create more airflow.

The air filter works so well that I actually need to change it too often. I live in a very urban setting with terrible air quality. This filter has helped greatly.

We added a new puppy to our family. Our new Goldendoodle was supposed to be non-shedding and hypoallergenic as I am allergic to dogs. I quickly found out that our new puppy shed all over the place and that I was having allergy problems as a result of this dog being in the house. In addition, when I would come home from work, all I could smell was "dog". I bought this filter hoping it would eliminate that "dog" smell and filter enough air so I could breathe easy. It has performed extremely well. There's no more dog smell and my allergies abated. I keep the fan setting on "2" all the time. I never turn the filter off. I's doing a great job. I highly recommend this air filter.

we bought this unit because our son has some allergies. after using it, it seems he has gotten better but when you turn this on from 2-3 on the fan, it's like you're sitting in a AC unit. it's pretty noisy, but i guess this is the price you'll have to pay for better health.

This air purifier works wonders. The amount of dust, dirt and other irritants it catches is truly amazing. You will see, firsthand, what an efficient job it does when you change the filter! It's really a necessity for sinus and allergy sufferers.

Works as should EXCEPT the price of the replacement filters is RIDICULOUS! I can replace the filters in my home for 2 years at the suggested frequency as I can one time in this air filter. Might consider this Before purchase.Wish I did.
