Hunter Makes a Great Unit,

I purchased, through Amazon, two Hunter units over a year ago after my Wife and I finished our Kitchen make-over. We had been using a Hamilton unit but I wanted another unit for the bedroom and one for the dining room that both used the same filters. These two Hunter units have run continuously for over a year and continue to do the job they were designed to do. We run the dining room unit on low and the bedroom unit on high...since I like the noise when I'm sleeping.
Thus, when it came time to put a filter unit in my newly completed Home Theater, located in our basement, the choice was a no brainer. Hunter makes great stuff, and they filter the air quite well. The replacement filters don't last forever, but that's the way it goes, as well, an air purifier is much like a printer..they get you hooked at a cheap price and then make money on replacement filters...this particular unit is fairly attractive and pretty quite on the low or medium settings. We don't use the ionizer on any of these as we have found that if the air cleanser is near a wall, the ionizer will in fact cause paint to yellow...I don't know what's up with that..?? All in all, we are happy campers...now if we could just quit smoking..! Uncle Willie

I'd used a large Honeywell HEPA for years before replacing it with 3 of these machines. They are infinitely less noisy, more compact and attractive. Replacement filters are easily found online for less than $20. I'm trying to extend the life of my original filters by placing a "SWIFTER" dust cloth in front of the installed filter. It does not seem to impair airflow and catches lots of the preliminary dust and hair. I just toss each old sheet each week or so and replace it with another. Dust in the house is down to a fraction of what it had been.

This is the second identical unit I have bought. It especially seems to reduce the amount of dog hair flying around in the room. As usual, Hunter products are an excellent value and very reliable.

This is an excellent unit at an exceptional price -- on Amazon. However, if this is a whisper, I've got the hearing of a bat. Even on low, I can hear it all the way down the hall. There is no way I could sleep in the same room with it on. I understand that others say they can. I just think comparing its noise to a "whisper" is a stretch.
Having allergies and faced with decisions such as becoming a much better housekeeper, removing carpet, and/or installing hard floors, I opted to stick an air purifier in almost every room. I bought 3 Hunters, one of which is a big one with a permanent filter. Added to a couple of old Honeywells, this solution has worked well -- although I don't use the ionizers because of warnings by Consumer Reports. Given the cost of filters, I'll try that swifter cloth idea the other reviewer mentioned.

I guess I am the only one reviewing this that thinks this unit doesnt work very well. It may be because I tried using it to replace a much more expensive unit that had broken and was used to a HUGE difference in perfomance. I ended up buying another expensive one and this Hunter is going in a garage sale. Live and learn. My Ecoquest is the only air purifier I need for about 1500 square feet of space and it is very quiet. It also features a sanitize option that kills bacteria. I guess I think by the time you buy enough of the Hunters to do a good job you could buy a GOOD unit. And you dont have purifiers sitting all over the house, something I would find annoying.

this is great deal! I love the filter, I find that I can vacuum it out every 2-weeks and it helps keep it clean longer, because with 3- chow chow dogs it gets a lot of hair in it very fast!
I'm thinking about getting one more Hunter!

This unit works very well BUT it moves so much air that its like having an osillating fan on high so you can only use it during the warmer months because it cools the room off.You can't use it in the bedroom because it makes to much noise so if all you care about is the filtering air then by all means buy it.

1. the price is good ($50)
2. you have to buy a filter every 4 months--depend on how often you use the air purifier. I have 2 cats and use the purifier 2 hours every day. It seems I have to replace the filter in 4 months. The filter is $20 to $30 per piece. 3. It works but do not expect a lot difference in the air after you use it. |
