Book Description

November 17, 2005
The black-ops government agency known as Sigma has shattered the resistance, destroyed its infrastructure, and taken its best operative captive. It's about as bad as it can get, but Sigma's forgotten one thing. Rowan Price. Rowan is no longer a civilian in the shadow war. Her talents are almost fully trained, and she's become something she never dreamed of-a cool, clinical, lethal psionic operative. Working as Henderson's second-in-command, she's utterly focused on two things: repairing the Society's infrastructure and rescuing Justin Delgado. Yet under her shell of calm and gentleness, her rage is simmering.and it's about to break loose. Delgado knows he can't remember something important. He puts up with Sigma's beatings and questioning, the pain and the torture. Sigma keeps asking him the same question-where is Rowan Price? He doesn't know who Price is or where she is, but if he can escape Sigma one more time, he's damn sure going to find out. Because Price, whoever she is, holds the key to his fractured memories and destroyed soul. The only problem for him is getting out, and Justin Delgado is very good at solving problems. Once he's out, nothing in the world is going to stop him from pursuing Rowan Price. But that may be the one thing Sigma's counting on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Damn and Double Damn!, May 12, 2006
By
D. Rumbold (Tualatin, or USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Hunter, Healer (The Society Series, Book 2) (Paperback)
I goofed, I grabbed the wrong book. I meant to get the Society, so I was a titch lost when I started Hunter, Healer. Thankfully that didn't seem to matter. I plunged in, was caught up in the swirl of character and story and was swept away in a heartbeat.

This is a chase story, a tightly written chase story that does not, I repeat does not have the overwheliming feeling of being in a video game that many of the latest chase stories have. There was true tension as Rowan Price tries to hold on to the mask she wears to hide the inner turmoil over the loss of the love her life Justin Delgado. She is a stron psion, perhaps one of the strongest. AS a member of the Society, she is constantly on the run from Sigma, the evil governmental agency in charge of tracking down, capturing and using psions.

Sigma has recaptured Justin and is trying to break the block he has placed in his memory - they want Rowan.

Rowan and Justin are both fully realized, seriously damaged people who can't slow down to catch a breath much less a break. As usual, Lilith Saintcrow creates living breathing minor characters who exist for more than color or to provide the crucial info in a nick of time. This is a wonderful change and well worth it!

Pros:
1. Wonderful characters - real enough that at times I was in tears.
2. Tight prose, not a word wasted
3. Fully realized locations, I felt I was in Vegas and on the road.

Cons:
Not long enough

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great book by Lilith Saintcrow!, February 19, 2006
This review is from: Hunter, Healer (The Society Series, Book 2) (Paperback)
Lilith Saintcrow concludes her two book series about psions with this stunning effort. As in the previous book, THE SOCIETY, two groups exist that recruit psions. Sigma is a black ops government agency that forcibly recruits psions using whatever means are necessary, including torture and addiction to the drug Zed. The Society is the opposing force that attempts to rescue psions prior to their capture by Sigma and then voluntarily trains them or helps them hide. The last book ended with a cliffhanger in which Justin Delgado was recaptured by Sigma and hooked on Zed again. Prior to being dosed with Zed, Justin used his psionic powers to push his mind to forget Rowan Price so that he would be unable to betray her. Rowan has powers yet untapped and the ability to heal others, including the ability to help others withdraw from Zed. She wants only to get Justin free from Sigma. However, Justin escapes yet again from Sigma and seeks out Rowan on his own. I won't spoil the remainder of the story but I will say that it is non-stop action as Justin and Rowan, along with the rest of the Society, take down Sigma. This was a great read and held my interest throughout both books in the series. Highly recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars Long Awaited Sequel to The Society, February 1, 2006
By
M. Bock (Richmond, VA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Hunter, Healer (The Society Series, Book 2) (Paperback)
Hunter, Healer picks up where The Society left off, w/ Rowan searching, fighting to find Justin (Del) and with Justin fighting to escape Sigma.

In Justin's absence, Rowan has become Henderson's 2nd-in-command focused on 3 things: 1) repairing the Society 2) rescuing Justin Delgado and 3) destroying Sigma. Meanwhile Justin who doesnt remember Rowan, is trying to escape Sigma. He knows he's forgotten something very important by having made himself "push" Rowan from his thoughts. By doing this he cant answer any questions about Rowan...who Sigma is desparately trying to locate and capture. No matter what the torture nor even the addicting drug ZED, he doesnt remember Rowan.

I really liked The Society and Hunter, Healer. It seems like I waited forever for the sequel to be publish (promised in November, released the end of December). Paranomal romances in contemporary settings are my favorite type of books. I also liked Ms Saintcrow's 2 "Watcher" books and now I'm waiting for the continuation of those stories, too (suppose to be released in 2005 but they havent been released yet). The one thing that I'm really greatful for is that this book didnt end w/ a "to be continued" like The Society did.
