Hans Kruuk, a life-long naturalist, tells the fascinating story of carnivores and humans' intricate relationships with them. The book is illustrated with specially commissioned drawings, and deals not only with the wild beauty of carnivores and their conservation, but also with the topics of furs and medicine, man-eaters and sheep-killers. Kruuk explains in simple terms the role of carnivores in nature, how they impact human life, art and literature, and how we instinctively respond to them and why.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"[Hans Kruk] hits a literary home run with his latest book...this is a great book for anyone interested in carnivores and their role in our world." Serge Lariviere, Journal of Mammalogy

"Kruuk captures the essence of an apparent contradiction--why the animals we fear are so fascinating.... A pleasantly written, easy to read, scientifically sound work. Highly recommended." Choice

Book Description

Hunter and Hunted is a fascinating account of the intricate relationships between predators and humans. Written by one of the world's best known naturalists, Hans Kruuk, it is both about his life-long passion for meat-eaters as diverse as otters and wolves, tigers and hyaenas, and a scientific exploration of what carnivores mean to humans and vice versa. Written in an easy and accessible style, and illustrated by charming anecdotes and wonderful line drawings, it will delight all those wanting a closer understanding of our complex feelings for carnivores.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excelant book, September 30, 2008
This review is from: Hunter and Hunted: Relationships between Carnivores and People (Paperback)
This is an excelant book about the relantion between the man and the carnivores. I think it is specially interesting for the people tahat want to know about the carnivores in a more general way. My only critical is that the focus of the author is on the carnivores of Africa and Europe, generally forgeting the species of America.
