This is a short story (the Location numbers only go to 244), and it is given as a side adventure to King Solomon's Mines. As the title suggests, it shows Quatermain as the Great White Hunter in Africa. The ending is deeply affecting.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Short Story that Precedes King Solomon's Mine, December 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
After watching "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" with Allen Quatermain (NOT Quartermain), I was intrigued. I was delighted to find several classics of his extraordinary adventures, and this short story is no exception.

Haggard introduced the world to the intrepid hunter Allan Quatermain in his novel "King Solomon's Mines" written in 1885. Hunter Qatermain's Story is a short story that precedes that novel, and is every bit enjoyable as it was when it was originally written.

This is only the short story "Hunter Quatermain's Story." It could get confusing with all the other collections of Haggard's work out there with the same name.

OTHER WORKS THAT INCLUDE "HUNTER ALLAN QUATERMAIN":

In "Allen's Wife" (1887) the short story "Hunter Quatermain's Story" is included, as well as "Allan's Wife", "A Tale of Three Lions" and "Long Odds".

However, in 2003, a collection of his works, also called "Hunter Quatermain's Story", was published and this collection includes: "Hunter Quatermain's Story" (1885), "Long Odds" (1886), "A Tale of Three Lions" (1887), "Magepa the Buck" (1912).

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Readers of Haggard's Quatermain should note that the writer did not write in chronological order. So though "King Solomon's Mines" introduced the hunter to the world, it was chronologically one of the adventurers later "books". (see wikipedia for a chronological list)

Rider Haggard's (1856 - 1925) works are uncopyrighted and in the public domain.
