The Hunter and The Whale by Laurens Van Der Post is a coming-of-age story of a young South African (Dutch) boy named Peter. In this novel, the protagonist narrates how he became a spotter--one who spots whales--for the whaling ship Kurt Hansen. Laurens Van Der Post writes with a skill that is rare for `modern' writers. I found this jewel of a book in the library used book bin, bought it for 75 cents. Boy did I luck out! Terry Bohannon Houston, TX
