4.0 out of 5 stars A Strong Voice and Engaging Content
I am currently enjoying _Hunter's Choice_. Lake's voice shows a sincere respect for wild game and life in general. He does appear to take poetic license with some of his tales, but this is true for almost any author recalling first person accounts. I recommend this book to those interested in spending time on an African safari or wishing to further their perspective on...

This book is not good. Lake seems to have had little real hunting experience. His stories seldom match other hunter's experiences in Africa and his "knowledge" of firearms and ballistics is non existant. He invents calibres as often as he invents his experiences. But not only does Lake's own stories lack the ring of truth, his tales of others (such as Col.Patterson, whom...

He does appear to take poetic license with some of his tales, but this is true for almost any author recalling first person accounts. I recommend this book to those interested in spending time on an African safari or wishing to further their perspective on living within poorly developed civilizations. Last, in reference to the GreybeardBushman's review, the two cartridge Lake mentions most often are the .303 and .270. Both cartridges have a long history and should be recognizable to any firearm neophyte.

This review is from: Hunter's Choice: Thrilling True Stories (Resnick's Library of African Adventure) (Paperback)
This book is not good. Lake seems to have had little real hunting experience. His stories seldom match other hunter's experiences in Africa and his "knowledge" of firearms and ballistics is non existant. He invents calibres as often as he invents his experiences. But not only does Lake's own stories lack the ring of truth, his tales of others (such as Col.Patterson, whom he absolutes cans) are often figments of a twisted imagination. Lake's experiences of african animals are almost totally opposed to other African gun writers whom I admire and provide evidence to back their stories, as well as having their stories supported by other African legands.
