I enjoyed it!,

This review is from: Hunter's Prayer (Jill Kismet, Hunter, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
Jill Kismet is a hunter that patrols the Nightside. She handles the big bad that cross from the demon realm into the human realm. She also bears the demon mark of a hellbreed, Pericles, Perry for short. His mark allows her as a human to have remarkable strength and speed, but she pays the price for that mark by having to spend time with Perry every month in almost whatever way he wants to pass the time. In this second book in this new series, prostitutes are showing up dead and eviscerated. Jill must find out who is killing prostitutes in her city.
I liked this second book even better than the first book and the first book was very good. It had tons of action and is written in typical Lilith style. It had a great mystery that at the end really surprised me. I have found this second series much easier to read than the Dante Valentine series, but I like both very much. I like the relationship Jill has with a were cougar, Saul Dustcircle. This relationship seems more stable and less volatile than the one Danny shared with Japh. I also like the character Jill. She's vulnerable but tough. She is very similar to Danny and how Danny was in the first books. Hopefully, Jill won't turn out as needy and self destructive as Danny ended up being. I very much look forward to the next in this series.

Can I just say how much I love this Author's work? Hunter's Prayer is another kick butt mystery that keeps you glued to your seat. I finished this book in a day and a half because I could not put it down. This series is shaping up to be just as great as the Danny Valentine series.
If you're wondering who I'd compare this author to, she's like Laurell K Hamilton when Anita Blake focused on plot and not sex scenes. There's great action and character development. I can't get enough of Lilith Saintcrow

I really enjoy Lilith Saintcrow's writing, and this book is no exception. The story in the second book of the Jill Kismet series has more twists and turns than Night Shift (the first of the series). More is revealed about Jill, and her relationship with Pericles becomes slightly more blurred. I look forward to the next one, hoping to learn more about Saul.

I really enjoyed this book. I tried to read slowly but finished it in a few days. I liked the first book in the series but this was much better, more plot twists. Highly recommend it.

Kick Butt Heroine,
This review is from: Hunter's Prayer (Jill Kismet, Hunter, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
The crimes committed against innocents just keep getting worse. Prostitutes are going missing and some are showing up with their entire insides savaged. Since Jill is a former prostitute, this hits home hard as she scrambles to stop the ones responsible. Unfortunately it looks like she is the next target and she keeps getting set up for run ins with a nasty creature that wants nothing other than destruction. Meanwhile Perry is up to his usual mind games and trying to claim her for her own. It will require everything she has to keep him from getting his claws any further into her, as she must protect her city at all costs. The horrors and gore step it up in this book, definitely not for those weak of stomach. However, the worse the crime committed, the more determined Jill is to stop those responsible. She is such a damaged character, yet she never once falters in her duty to protect the innocents of her city. Her entire life could be in shambles, yet she would still give her last breath if it meant stopping one more horror. I understand why there are so few hunters. Being a hunter requires such complete discipline and sacrifice, that it is very rare for someone to be able to give that much of themselves. Sometimes I wonder if Jill is able to do this because she doesn't have any self worth, so she doesn't feel like she really is sacrificing that much in the end. I hope in time she realizes just how much she actually is worth, as her devotion is nothing short of remarkable. I enjoyed the relationship between Jill and Saul. He is her rock and sounding board. She has come to depend on him so much, that it is a wonder that she survived before he came along. There are many times where he is all that stands between herself and falling into damnation, which wouldn't take much due to her "bargain" with Perry. However, until she accepts herself, I think their relationship will be hindered. Since she doesn't have any self-worth, she doesn't really feel she deserves Saul, so she can't fully trust him, as the fear he will leave is too high. I have high hopes for them, it will just take a little work and acceptance. I enjoyed this book just as much as the first one, if not a little more. The dynamic between Jill and Saul really added to the book and allowed a little "happiness" to shine through. I need at least little light in my books, so I was happy to have it in this book despite the absolute horrors and darkness of the rest of it. The ending surprised me, and promises great things for the next book. Definitely a series worth checking out, but I would recommend starting from the beginning to make sure you have enough back story. Very good read!

Call me a book/writing/font nerd, but I was in love with Jill Kismet on page one of Hunter's Prayer, when she's talking about the wording and font for her business cards. This is actually the Kismet book I read first, and is still my favorite of the bunch. (As it turns out, Lilith Saintcrow wrote this one first, and then went back and wrote Night Shift!) I like that Jill is prickly and makes mistakes and has fears and regrets and pushes herself. I like that she makes bad jokes in worse situations. I like that her armor is cracked.
After reading this one, I went and sought out a lot of Saintcrow's other stuff. Hunter's Prayer is still my favorite out of them all!

This review is from: Hunter's Prayer (Jill Kismet, Hunter, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
Jill is never done protecting her territory and is once more dragged in a great thriller when pregnant prostitutes start showing up dead randomly with all their organs and eyes taken out: not for delicate stomach. Jill isn't alone anymore though and she thanks god everyday for it. Saul Dustcircle came back to her and they built a relationship as stable as it can get when you are a hunter. Kismet, Saul and Perry are knee deep in a very complicated series of events and try to sort it all out, not without loosing some feathers in the process.
Another great novel by Lilith Saintcrow: Jill is more and more interesting. She's facing her hunted past more then once in that novel and grow as a character. Near-death experience rains in a story full of action and Treason. We are left wondering what the heck it is with Perry and his weird games, we want to know what he is! Hopefully we will find out in the third book of the series.

This review is from: Hunter's Prayer (Jill Kismet, Hunter, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
Having just devoured the Dante Valentine series 3 times back to back, I thought I'd try something else by Saintcrow and bought the first two of these books. There are too many things in common with the DV series, but not necessarily the good things. There's very little real chemistry between the heroine and her love interest, and this world seems full of misery with no chance of transcendance, no control over your own destiny, no happiness or any of the other things that make life worth living. Also, too much repetition of language and character types from DV: the characters "stalk" about to show indignation while walking, the heroine has a friend who is a happily married cop, heroine's sexual victimization early in life making her a hard yet vulnerable adult -- don't need that to happen to achieve this in a character. I read the first two books because I bought them, then bought the third on a whim to see if it improved, but no. If anymore come out, I won't be reading them. If you liked the DV series, read "The Society." Just finished it. Definitely worth reading -- maybe a couple of times!

This was a good follow up to the 1st book. I can tell there is a lot more coming with her relationship with the hellspawn and I can't wait to find out what happens. Can almost smell the apprenticeship waiting in the wings as well. Very good read and looking forward to see what happens next.
