This is not a romance - yes, there is a romance, but it is not the focal point of this novel. This book is a thriller - an action packed, well written thriller. Baldwin is expert at building the tension from page one to the end of the book. There will be times when you might want to put the book down because of the tension, but it won't be long before you return to it. As Baldwin builds toward the final confrontation, you will find yourself reading feverishly, and staying up long after you should have turned the lights off.

Baldwin shows none of the first-book problems that so many other authors do. In this book, we experience Baldwin's considerable writing talents. One can only imagine that if she is this good with her first book, she will be extraordinary very shortly.

You will certainly want to add Baldwin's other two books, Force of Nature and Whitewater Rendezvous, to your cart immediately.

5.0 out of 5 stars Laura Croft meets her match!, August 6, 2004
This review is from: Hunter's Pursuit (Paperback)
Loved the strong female lead. Lots of action and suspense! I loved remote wilderness setting. Felt like I was stuck in a cold winter storm. It was great to have a female action hero. The characters were very likeable and I was sucked in to the relationship between Hunter and her mysterious guest. I hope there will be a sequel to this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hunter's Pursuit is Worth Pursuing, June 27, 2004
This review is from: Hunter's Pursuit (Paperback)
Hunter's Pursuit is an outstanding first-time effort by Kim Baldwin. A strong, no-nonsense female lead and plenty of action (think "Alias" if you need a frame of reference). A little romance thrown in. Good use of cliff-hangers at the end of chapters. The author has an easy to read writing style. Hunter's Pursuit is a page-turner, and I couldn't put it down until I finished it. I hope Ms. Baldwin will develop her Hunter character in later efforts. Baldwin is a new author worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Action packed rollercoaster adventure with two terrific lead characters, July 26, 2005
This review is from: Hunter's Pursuit (Paperback)
Make sure you start this book over a weekend as you won't want to stop reading until the last page. And it is a page turner. I am usually a slow paced reader but I read the first 200 pages in under 2 hours. I had to force myself to put it down so I could head to work. Very well written and interesting characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping story, I couldn't stop turning the pages, October 25, 2007
This review is from: Hunter's Pursuit (Paperback)
Hunter, a retired bounty hunter rescues a lady from a car wreck and takes her home to her underground bunker to recuperate. The lady is suffering from temporary memory loss, leaving Hunter with no clues to who this mysterious woman is. Her close friend has informed her that she has a bounty on her head. Time is ticking for Hunter as she juggles nursing a woman back to health who she is becoming attracted to and protecting them both from the assassins out to earn the lucrative bounty money.

The attraction between the two women is intense and Hunter struggles to accept that she may have a chance of true happiness after all. Is it at a cost? She knows that a female bounty hunter has accepted the task of hunting her down, has Hunter inadvertently let her in.

I haven't read a book as quickly as this one in a long time, I couldn't put it down and I didn't want the story to end.

This is Kim Baldwin's first novel, and the first of her novels that I've read. When they talk about a page turner, this is the kind of book that's being talked about. I literally could not put this book down. I ended up staying up all night long reading because I wanted to find out what was going to happen next. Ms. Baldwin's rapid fire descriptions went back and forth between the characters keeping me breathlessly enraptured. There are no holes in this story that leave you wondering why the story line took a certain course -- everything is wrapped up neatly in the end. I was so enthralled with Ms. Baldwin's writing that I ordered her second and third book immediately after finishing the first.

5.0 out of 5 stars Underground And Out Of Sight... Sort Of, April 1, 2007

This review is from: Hunter's Pursuit (Paperback)
A fan of Kim Baldwin, I was truly looking forward to reading `Hunter's Pursuit.' I was most certainly not disappointed. She's a brilliant writer who brings exciting and realistic characters to life on the written page.

First, there is Kat Demetrious, a.k.a. Hunter, a killer for hire who wants to get out of the business for good. She sequesters herself to a hidden bunker in the north hills; only to find out she's the target of a $1 million contract issued by her former boss. Only a few people have taken on the challenge of the contract and Kat believes she's ready for them all. That is until she rescues a woman from a car wreck just outside her bunker.

Kat believes the woman is Scout, the most dangerous of the killers after her. However the injured woman is suffering from amnesia. Except for a few items in a stolen car, Kat can't prove the woman's identity. In any case, it doesn't seem to matter for long because the two women begin to face an expected and undeniable attraction. Things start to really get interesting when the other killers show up and Kat is torn between protecting this new love interest and feeding her to the proverbial dogs.

Baldwin keeps the reader hanging until the last few chapters, not revealing anything about the true nature of the characters and situations until the last possible moment. This is most certainly a "sitting on the edge of your seat" kind of novel. And, the truth is revealed in such a way that you won't be able to put it down until you're finished. Wonderfully written with great characters, I highly recommend `Pursuit' to anyone.

I purchased this book last year and, after all this time, it remains my favorite to go back to and read again and again (what can I say? You authors don't write quick enough for my hungry mind). I absolutely love the adventure and mystery throughout, and the love story was just as suspenseful, which completely made my day. Although I've enjoyed Ms. Baldwin's other books, I'd love to see another book such as this. Sequel anyone? I mean, c'mon, Kat can't really step out of it so easily....can she????

5.0 out of 5 stars Suspense! Drama! Mystery!, August 17, 2005
By
This review is from: Hunter's Pursuit (Paperback)
Assassin Katarzyna "Kat" Demetrious, code name Hunter, rescues a woman seriously injured and stuck in a wrecked car in the snow. Who is this woman? Where did she come from? And why would she have been driving in such a remote area? Could she be one of the assassins Kat has been told is on her trail?

As Kat tends to her "patient" in her hidden bunker, she ponders the situation and what to do when the woman wakes. Should she render her harmless before she does? Should she "restrain" her? Instincts, which have saved her life more often than she can count, tell Kat that she should trust them once again. When her patient finally does awaken, both women are shocked at the woman's revelation. She seems to be suffering from amnesia and claims to not know who she is? Is she faking or does she really not remember?

As time unfolds both women begin to realize that there are feelings beginning to develop between them. Strong feelings...feelings which could get one or both of the women killed. As they deal with these unexpected feelings, the danger draws closer and closer. Deciding to go with her instincts, Kat trusts that her patient "Jake" as she now calls herself, is not the would-be assassin. If she's not, then can Kat expose the real assassin before they strike? Can she turn the tables and go from being the "hunted" to being the "hunter"? What will happen to the women's blossoming relationship should her patient regain her memory?

Kim Baldwin takes the reader on a turn twisting, action-packed, nail biting ride as she weaves a fantastic tale of drama, suspense, intrigue, and mystery. Hunter's Pursuit is a book that simply MUST be read! Her upcoming book Forces of Nature, due out in September 2005 is certain to be another hit for a very talented writer.
