From Booklist

A star host on the Outdoor Channel, Waddell talks about hunting and his memorable hunts in this anecdotal account. A Georgia native, Waddell explains that his title hails from a creek bottom where he was taught to handle guns by his father. Fond recollections of learning to shoot wild turkeys precede Waddell’s story about how he attained his high profile in the outdoors industry. Noticed in turkey-calling competitions, Waddell was tapped by a clothing outfitter to endorse their products, which led him into video production of hunting trips. Recounting his adventures carrying camera, gun, and bow and arrow, Waddell explains his hunting techniques and also provides an answer to nonhunters’ questions on what hunting is all about. Acknowledging that hunting involves being outside in great places with good buddies, he doesn’t pretend that the sport is only about nature and friendship: hunters kill animals, he declares. Direct and personable. An engaging depiction of the hunting world. --Gilbert Taylor --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

I like watching M.W. on the Outdoor channel. I've recently gotten into hunting and have been looking for good books to pick up some knowledge and wisdom from folks who've been at this for a while. While this book is mildly entertaining, there's not much hunting wisdom or knowledge shared in it. It's simply a somewhat entertaining recount of his best hunts, in places and after animals that most regular folks won't ever have a chance to see. If you want to spend some time reading about hunting wildabeast and elephants in africa, at sometimes upwards of $10K a trip, you will enjoy this book. If you're looking for practical knowledge about hunting and fishing in America, pass on this one and pick up Meat Eater: Adventures from the Life of an American Hunter by Steven Rinella. Now THERE is a book that gives up some secrets of why, how, when and where to hunt.

If you are a fan of the TV hunting personality, Michael Waddell, then you will enjoy this book. Michael's voice and personality shine as he recollects his early years of hunting in Georgia's Booger Bottom to his present day travels of hunting around the globe. The behind the scenes commentary of televised hunts are entertaining and display the "fun factor" that Michael seeks out with whomever he is hunting with which includes Bill Jordan, David Blanton, Ted Nugent, Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert, Rhett Akiins and more. Take a copy to camp and share with your pals, afterall Michael is all about hunting camp friendships.

Waddell worked his way to become the luckiest Hunter ever by living and making a living as a professional Hunter. His stories are a metaphor for his life. He worked hard and smart, was patient, developed a great network of people and now he lives a trophy life. A fun read.

I thought the book did a good job of explaining how Michael got his start and truly what people have to go through to get into the outdoor business.
