Excellent, concise,
This review is from: Hunting Ducks and Geese: Hard Facts, Good Bets, and Serious Advice from a Duck Hunter You Can Trust (Paperback)
Great for the beginner, really gets one up to speed on the sport of waterfowling. Well worth the cost, highly recommended. Not the end all, but a good beginning.

For The Most Inexperienced Beginner,
This review is from: Hunting Ducks and Geese: Hard Facts, Good Bets, and Serious Advice from a Duck Hunter You Can Trust (Paperback)
This book covers the most basic parts of hunting birds. If you already have some equipment and want to increase your success rates, look for another book as this one has very little depth. I would recommend this book to someone who has no decoys, no guns, no blinds and no experience whatsoever, otherwise find a different book because this one will disappoint you.

While this book doesn't get into much depth, it is a fine survey of the sport of waterfowling. Though it is largely a collection of broad discussions on topics such as weather, dogs, guns, and waterfowl behavior, Smith is a great writer and his stories of experiences in the field are always engaging and entertaining. You can tell this man has spent thousands of hours out in the field and he has the knowledge to prove it. Whether you're looking for an entry-level introduction to the sport or a refresher with some pretty good tips and tricks along the way, this book is a winner. However, if you're looking for a really in-depth discussion of bird behavior, choosing hunting spots, or how to clean and cook a bird, choose another book on that topic. But overall, an informative and engaging read. I am pleased.

This book is really well written. It is a good piece of storytelling with all the tips and tricks as well as gear suggestions woven right in. I really enjoyed this book as a relatively new duck hunter. Read it front to back and you won't be disappointed.
