"Hunting North American Big Game" by Durwood Hollis is definitely a good read. It's part how-to manual, part adventure story, all of it valuable. It put me right in the thick of things. I felt like I was the one sitting with him on the edge of that California canyon, glassing across 300 yards of scrub-brush and sage, planning my strategy for the monster buck picking his way through the brambles below. This book covers excellent strategies and equipment for hunting several North American big-game species. I found Hollis' writing style very entertaining and educational, because he intersperses detailed instructions with all of his personal anecdotes. He's not ashamed to admit that even though he's hunted for some 30 years, even HE doesn't know it all, frequently requesting help from guides on his hunts, and imparting THEIR knowledge to you, the reader, as well as his own.
