2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I thought it would be, January 18, 2011
This review is from: Hunting Quotations: Two Hundred Years of Writings on the Philosophy, Culture and Experience (Hardcover)
Hunting Quotations is a collection of quotes on these topics:
1. The Thrill of the Chase
2. Hunting as Communion with Nature
3. The Morality of Hunting
4. Hunting and Extection
5. Hunting the American Predetors
6. Hunting as Cultural Tradition
7. Man the Hunter
8. Hunting and Wildlife Management

The compiler admits that they are prejudiced one way or they other about hunting but does not admit which way they lean towards. It comes out in the book that the compiler is an anti-hunter. Most of the quotes in the book are against hunting, putting it down with the same ideas and thoughts we face today. On the other hand, however, Jolma does include many pro-hunting quotes that are very good; but these are few and far between. Jolma wanted to put this together in an unbias way, but I think she went a little to far her way.
Still an interesting, thought provoking and fun read. The anti-hunting quotes did not deter me away from wanting to hunt, but the pro-hunting quotes didnt propel me any further either. I guess you could say that Jolma accomplished her goal by the outcome, but the substance is obviously against hunting.
