Book Description

September 13, 2007
Written by a leading expert on the subject, the Second Edition of Hunting Serial Predators describes the empirical process used to analyze serial murderers' crime scene actions, making it possible to form logical decisions about how to detect and apprehend serial killers. In this new edition, Dr. Maurice Godwin provides the reader with a model of the crime scene actions of American serial murderers based on information available to a police inquiry; an overview of the related scientific knowledge, introducing a new method to classify the serial predator; and accounts of the process and difficulties of profiling the serial murderer. By presenting a classification model of serial murderers and their crime scene behaviors based on empirical and repeatable studies, this book makes significant advances in the areas of police investigations, etiology, and treatment possible.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hunting Serial Predators, 2nd Edition, February 4, 2012

This review is from: Hunting Serial Predators 2 Edition (Paperback)
This scholarly work is a scientific examination of serial predators, I believe on the level of a an upper-level class in sociology. I say believe, because I felt I lacked a prerequisite class or two that would have helped me to comprehend the analytical methods employed.

However, that academic approach underscores that this is a serious work written by an accomplished author and expert in criminology, G. Maurice Godwin.

Despite my difficulties following some of the reasoning in the work, I gave it five stars (my limitations are my problem, not the author's) because hidden amongst the charts are case study histories, crammed with detail and information about the lives of actual serial killers--information a mystery/thriller writer can use.

There is also a useful index to find specific facts about serial killers in general.

Barbara Sullivan, author of Unraveling Ada and Ripping Abigail.
