Excelent book on Hunting Wild Boar in California,
By A Customer
This review is from: Hunting Wild Boar in California (Paperback)
There is very little written on wild boar hunting in the Western United States, consequently, this book becomes a local bible if you can find it. Many good facts and much good advice on hunting the wild boar.

Don't get suckered!,

This review is from: Hunting Wild Boar in California (Paperback)
I usually buy my books used, counting on the information to be of more value than the book printed in. In this case, I payed far more for both the information, and this shallow little paperback of a mere 150 pages. For the amount paid, I expected a great deal more detail on the biology and habits of wild hogs than provided, critical to an archer such as myself who must track his quarry the majority of the time after a lethal shot. Spoor and sign are covered in such a general way I felt I came away knowing less after I read it! The sole saving grace of this book is a fairly comprehensive review of public land the auther once hunted( information now 15 years outdated: for example the Santa Cruz and Catalina Islands were huntable and not yet parks at the time of publication), which may open up new territories for the aspiring hunter. The book mainly caters towards rifle hunters who wish to pay what this critic considers outrageous fees to shoot a hog on private land. With enough money, you can be guaranteed a trophy of anything( you've not only shot it, you've bought it)! To sum it up, for this dated and general information, I wouldn't pay any more than $5-$10 for it. The DFG website was far more useful. Don't get suckered!

Bible for California Boar,
By A Customer
This review is from: Hunting Wild Boar in California (Paperback)
Excellent description of habitat, habits and genetics in Wild Boar. Good example of the Armor Plate fascia on the side you have to punch through. Good directions on where to go and a good list of outfitters in the back..only book you'll need.

I beg to differ in that I felt that I got my moneys worth out of this little book.It covers the basics of who, what, where and why very well. I especially liked the part about the selection of rifles for a pig hunt. As to pistols, I guess that I don't have the right stuff because I need to hit the target and hit it very hard. A highly urinated off pig can really ruin your day! Been there & done that! (Pistols are fun to shoot but I don't want to count on then when the chips are down.)
