"Stems...skin...." WHAT?

And to the other idiot, these are NOT "sun dried" tomatoes, they are roasted
over an open fire, and you can taste the difference. A few bits of blackened
skin in roasted tomatoes are part of their charm, and after using dozens of
cans of this wonderful product, I can guarantee you the "skin" content is very
low, and the stem content is absolutely zero. I swear the internet has made
complete imbeciles out of half the population.

Hunts uses a proprietary natural steam process to prepare and pack their tomato
based products. This avoids chemical treatments and preserves the tomatoes as
close to their natural state as possible without the need for other additives
carrying names you never heard of. These tomatoes are great, and much more
convenient than roasting your own, which would yield a skin content that very
few of these experts on Amazon could tolerate. LOL

I'm not a big fan of "fire-roasted" and I origiinally bought these because I couldn't get the plain diced tomatoes. I'm still not a big fan of "fire-roasted" and have since gone back to the plain diced tomatoes. But these are good and I've been satisfied with them overall.

So, I enjoy the fire roasted tomatoes and use them a lot in various dishes. They add a little boldness that I enjoy especially when coupled with some roasted garlic. However, I used a can last night in some spaghetti sauce and realized the sauce came out oddly sour. When I investigated further I realized that there were GREEN tomatoes in the fire roasted can! (I know it was from that particular can because I used crushed tomatoes and one can of fire roasted, which is really chunky.)

So, I still really like this product and will continue to use it, but check it out before you dump your cans all willy nilly. There may be some sour green tomatoes in there and, I don't about you, but I don't like verde spaghetti sauce.

Bought these in February. The expiration date was in June. If you're going to buy in bulk..eat them on a regular basis.

Have used this product extensively for the past several years. Excellent in all sorts of dishes. They are perfectly good in recipes year-round but are a no-brainer during the winter months when fresh tomatoes are not in season.

They are especially good in Mexican and Italian cooking. In Mexican cooking, the smokiness of the tomatoes pairs well with spicy chiles to create all sorts of sauces and salsas. The addition of cumin, smoked peppers, and roasted meat enhances and mirrors the smokiness of the tomatoes.

In Italian cooking they are good for adding depth to tomato sauces and mimicking long cooking times. A favorite use is taking a bit of sliced garlic, flash frying it in olive oil and then adding drained fire roasted tomatoes. To this you can easily add some sliced olives and crushed red pepper. It might be the quickest putanesca sauce you ever had. You'll want to reach for a piece of crusty bread to pick up the remaining sauce. : ) Delicious.

Overall, this product is fantastic. Can't recommend it enough.
