I was thrilled to receive this wonderful monograph on the Hupmobile. The author did a masterful job in researching the intriguing cars and corporate leaders that made Hupmobile a truly "good car."

There is so much fascinating (a nearly overwhelming amount of) information in the book that it will take several reads to begin to understand it all. The car photos and scans of original news articles are very interesting, as are the accounts of the endurance races in which the cars competed. I think that the interior shots of the cars as well as rare photos of early enclosed Hupmobiles (check out the Model 32 coupes!) are especially exciting.

If you want exhaustive, useful information about Hupmobiles, this is the ticket. Yes, I did find some typos and a photo of an Auburn that was mis-captioned in the book, but the high-quality research and the absorbing subject far override these minor shortcomings for me. It looks like only 750 of these books have been printed, so I would recommend that you buy a copy ASAP.

Given the subject matter, it's a shame not to like this book more. However, there are so many typos that it's hard to enjoy the wonderful photography.

I don't know where Bill got these great photos...it is amazing how they tell the story that the text cannot.

There was only one Hupmobile. If only today's carmakers could foster the spirit of originality and independence that we once could take for granted.
