I enjoyed the 10 tracks where Joan Stiles plays piano only. She is excellent, as are her bandmates. Having said that, I just do not enjoy her singing. 10 of 12 ain't bad, but I can't give it 5 stars. Sorry.

Intelligent, sophisticated and cool,

Of the hundred odd jazz CD's I've purchased in the past year, this would rank among the top five. Ms.Stiles is an extraordinarily talented composer/arranger who, judging by the exceptional group of musicians on this disc, is recognized as someone special by her peers. You will think so, too.

Praises for Hurly Burly,

This is piano jazz at it's best! In fact, this album is a must for the jazz afficionado. Stiles' music is crisp, clean and innovative. Her arrangements on each tune are refreshing and creative. Each musician on the recording is tops. I first heard this sextet live at Smoke in NYC and have been listening to the record non-stop. This is one groovy recording!
