This review is from: Hurray for Three Kings' Day! (Library Binding)
We checked this book out at our local library (almost by accident), and once we read it, we had to order it from Amazon. It is one of the few books that accurately depicts the traditional celebrations of Dia de Los Reyes (Three Kings Day). The three children in the story walk from house to house asking if there is any room for them to stay (just as Mary and Joseph did before the birth of Christ). The youngest character, Anita, also leaves her shoes by her bed for the three kings to fill with presents and candy (also a tradition, not much unlike Santa leaving stuff in stockings), along with some grass and water for the camels that the kings ride in on (like leaving cookies and milk for Santa). Then later, the family all sits down to eat the Rosca de Reyes (ring shaped bread with a baby figurine baked in). If you are familiar with the celebrations, you will know what I am talking about and will be excited to share this with your children. And even if you have never celebrated Dia de los Reyes, this book is a good way to teach your children about different cultures and customs (this book does a great job explaining the reasons behind the traditions simply, and weaves it effortlessly into the narrative).
