Well organized. Saves lots of frustration.,
This review is from: Hurricane Calculus: The New Approach to First Year Calculus (Paperback)
This is a great calculus book for the autodidact. I looked over Bittinger, the MIT text, and others, and Hurricane Calculus was by far the most oriented toward the reader who doesn't already know calculus. The only flaw in this book is the large number of proofreading errors (not an unusual feature in a modern math textbook), a few of which involve math errors. Hopefully a second edition will fix these problems.

absolutely the best,

This book makes every step clear and simple, and understandable. Whereas other books tell you what to do, this book helps you understand WHY. I'm taking calc for a pre-MBA class, and we're covering a full semester in ten weeks. Even though we are breezing through chapters at a time, this book makes learning the math more than possible.

Teaches math-phobics Calculus in a way they can understand!,

This text was a life-saver while I was taking Calculus. When my class text book would give confusing and convuluted expainations of various topics, I would turn to "Hurricane Calculus" and the topic would immediately become clear and understandable. Half of my class went out to purchase the book and all have found it incredibly useful.

I'm a Math Teacher and I LOVE this book!!,

I'm a math teacher who occasionally has to teach a Calculus class. (If you don't use it every day you soon forget it.) This book is my bible for refreshing my skills, and providing useful terminology and explainations written in English (not Math-eaze) that non-Math people can understand. Yes it does have errors in it, but this aside it's an indespensible supplement to all the dry, boring, textbooks that have error free examples but very confusing text.

I like the algebra review before diving into calculus. It's amazing how much we forget, so that was a big help.

revised opinion!,
This review is from: Hurricane Calculus: The New Approach to First Year Calculus (Paperback)
I wrote a review after I had gone through a few chapters, and I said there were "some" math errors... there are at least 50 critical math errors, including errors in the tables of trig integrals you're told to memorize. Don't buy this edition!

A complete and utter disappointment,

There is no excuse for the amount of errors in this book. Teaching/Learning from it is impossible because many of the examples, explanations, and answers in the back are dead wrong. I strongly urge any student seeking calculus help to use a real textbook.

It's a shame, hopefully the authors will revise this book. I would use this combined with another RELIABLE text book, or just purchase "Calculus Made Easy".
