Product Description

Hurricane Turning Tools has done it again. We would like to introduce you to the Hurricane HTC125 125MM 4 Jaw Self Centering Woodturning Chuck. This is an outstanding quality chuck that compares to some of the "famous names" on the market. In fact, we have put those other chucks "in the drawer" and use these chucks exclusively in our own shop. Best of all, because we sell direct without a middleman, our prices blow away any competive chuck on the market.

I'm down to 22 chucks in two shops, but I still wanted to see what this one was like. Most of mine are Vicmarcs, but I have a few Supernova 2's (earlier models) and two Oneway Strongholds. Got this chuck in the mail quickly, and used it the last two days. Normally, I would say stay away from Chinese made products, but I like this one. It combines the best of Oneway Stronghold's and Vicmarc 120's. The insert screws in (like the Oneway) and has two additional holes for forcing the insert out. The back is covered (like Vicmarc). The key is a combination of Vicmarc and Oneway, in that it takes a square drive bit (vicmarc), but uses the T-handle (Oneway). There is a hole in the insert (Vicmarc) for extracting the chuck from the lathe. This chuck was designed by someone who knows his/her stuff, is obviously a woodturner and can synthesize different products into one excellent chuck.

This is a monster. It works well and seems to be built for a lifetime. I will take a couple of years to decide if that is true. Meanwhile, I am not afraid to mount some very heavy blanks on my lathe with this chuck.

The chuck is very impressive for the price. I ordered the large jaws for my larger turnings which i believe will work well. The chuck adjustment is very smooth and the jaws are heavy duty. Can't wait to get started.
