Book Description

November 15, 2000

Designed before the onset of World War II, this fast and maneuverable fighter became the backbone of the RAF's Fighter Command during the Battle of Britain. The Hawker Hurricane won the majority of the aerial victories that gave the RAF the edge over the German Luftwaffe in the crucial days of 1940. Hurricane puts you in the cockpit and behind the stick of this famous RAF airplane.

This review is from: Hurricane: RAF Fighter (Paperback)
Dan Patterson is an amazing aviation Photographer, AVM Ron Dick is a man supremely qualified to discuss the Hawker Hurricane. Pair them together and something very special happens. The images are stunning and are an excellent balance between historic and new. Though I would have prefered to keep the same number of images and add just a bit more text. This is not to say some of the text isn't facinating. How many fans of this era knew there was an experimental Biplane Hurricane? There is even a picture of one in this book. However what about the ski equipped models? What about the Hurricanes that served in the Soviet Union? True the title identifies it as "RAF Fighter". However the hurricane did have quite a long career in other corners of the globe. Sidney Cam (the designer of the Hurricane) made a wonderfull machine and the pictures in this book help those of us who dream of flying a Hurricane get just that bit closer.
