5.0 out of 5 stars Hurricane Season is a GREAT read!, October 20, 2001
This review is from: Hurricane Season: Stories from the Eye of the Storm (Hardcover)
Karen Bjorneby has a major talent for clear and intense writing, which makes for extremely compelling stories about people who want things badly but who are dealing with forces far bigger than the circumstances of their own lives. These stories remind me of Dorothy Allison's writing; they're honest and straightforward and they don't shy away from the emotions that churn just below (or above) the surface. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a fresh, engaging and unsentimental new voice in contemporary fiction.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Collection of Stories, February 1, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Hurricane Season: Stories from the Eye of the Storm (Hardcover)
These stories were wonderful -- thought provoking, with interesting and original descriptions. Surprising endings, or were some of them beginnings? The plots derive from the characters, all of whom are struggling to make sense of their emotions, thoughts and surroundings. Ms. Bjorneby's voice is rich in intelligence, depth, and nuance. A great read.

A great collection of interesting and highly entertaining short stories. These aren't the usual short stories you might expect to find, but rather they tug at the heart strings while at the same time fully engaging the readers mind. You'll spend many enjoyable nights reading through this delightful collection.
