Editorial Reviews

Review

Great series! Can't say enough good things about any books from Crabtree Publishing. Neil Morris' "Wonders of Our World" series from Crabtree Publishing breaks down environment into specific subjects so that appropriate focus can be given in each educational book. These books will prove much more memorable than competitors on the same subject because they blend simplicity with an effort to entertain: kids will find them bright, colorful, and appealing beyond the usual school applications -- The Midwest Book Review

Taken from Chapter 7: Twister! In North America, tornadoes are often called twisters. About 700 twisters are reported every year in the USA, and smaller ones probably take the total up to 1,000. They form along a front between warm air from the Gulf of Mexico and cooler air from the north. Most twisters occur in spring and early summer, usually during the afternoon or early evening. Some twisters last for just ten minutes and travel only a short distance. Only one in every 200 travels more than 100 miles (160 kilometers).
