4.0 out of 5 stars Melodic but harder than pop punk
I don't like most bands categorized with the phrase "pop punk." I've heard "melodic punk" used to describe the Riddlin' Kids, and it's closer to the truth. They rock harder than pop punk, and with the exception of the single "I Feel Fine," the punk edges out the pop. Some songs reflect the positive aspects of relationships, but most deal with failed relationships. These...

These go beyond simplistic recounts of events and recognize underlying patterns and emotional impacts while still maintaining a rather positive view, all of which helps to give the band more lyrical depth than a lot of their punk-ish peers. "Wasted Away," about a lonely and isolated girl in a small town who dreams of something better and is "praying for a time when she doesn't hate her life," is one of my favorite tracks. Overall the album is upbeat, full of energy and made me a huge fan of the Riddlin' Kids. I've already recommended the band to many of my friends.

4.0 out of 5 stars Atomic pop-punk from down south, January 22, 2005
This review is from: Hurry Up & Wait (Audio CD)
I used to think the only thing "punk" coming outta Texas was Bowling for Soup...Until, of course, I bought "hurry up and wait". It's a pretty awesome debut, If I do say so myself, and it doesn't mind being actually more pop than punk (which is always good in an age where being "real punk" is more important to some than life itself). The guitar work is cool, but nothing outstanding, and the music is pretty catchy too. At first, the songs didn't really stick, but after a while, they grew on me like crazy, and HUAW practically never left my CD player. However, not everything is great about HUAW. Some of the songs have less than steller chorus', and the vocalist is a bit too low pitched for my tastes. But then again, those are all just MY opinion and have no real reflection on the CD itself. So take my advice, if you like Bowling for soup or other talented pop-punk acts, you'll enjoy Riddlin' Kids.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pop-punk?, May 9, 2003
This review is from: Hurry Up & Wait (Audio CD)
I've had trouble trying to understand the Riddlin' Kids sound label lately. Punk influences abound, definitely, but Blink 182? I see the perspective behinf the opinion, but the fact of the matter is, the Riddlin' Kids, without a doubt, have their own unique, somewhat-grinding sound that drives like an SUV on the highway. The Riddlin' Kids are a solid group, and though yes, their lyrics instantly bring to mind "relationship woes syndrome," Riddlin Kids' driving tempos, solid, though non creative guitar playing, and the lead singer's growl-esque characteristic to his sound set them aside from mediocre pop-punk bubbles produced by MTV. A solid, good 'ol rock band for your average joe who wants a band to casually rock out to. Whether or not they're lyrics are repetitive, and whether or not they have image issues, Riddlin' Kids are a decent bunch, and hopefully their future albums will better showcase the inner creativity I know they posess.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good for a punk rock band, April 23, 2003
This review is from: Hurry Up & Wait (Audio CD)
now i usually don't like punk rock, but when i heard that this band was opening for the Kottonmouth Kings, i knew that they should be good since KMK doesn't pick bad bands, but besides that fact, i thought that Hurry Up And Wait was pretty decent. Songs like Blind, I Feel Fine, and the R.E.M. cover of End of the World are some of the highlights of the CD. The Riddlin Kids gear away from the poppy Blink 182 sound and the mainstream Good Charlotte persona and perform underground new century punk rock at it's best, but they're no Ramones of course! If you're looking for a different, but yet a more modern hardcore punk sound, then get the Riddlin Kids' album

4.0 out of 5 stars Great CD, Highly Recommended, August 24, 2002

I saw this cd in K-Mart when i was bored one afternoon. It was like nine bucks and the cover was kinda funny so I picked it up (yeah, that's a great way to pick up albums, i know). Now, I'm the Riddlin' Kids' newest fan. It's a really tight cd. It has solid, fat guitar riffs and substantive, weighty vocals that really rock me out. if you like to jump off of furniture, yell, and kick things (like butt"), then I highly recommend this fine album by the Riddlin' Kids. Peace.

I first heard Riddlin' Kids song "I Feel Fine" on my favorite alternative radio station and I just had to get the song. So I went to my local music store and found out it wasn't coming out till two months later. So I waited the two long months and then I preordered it and when I got it I popped it in my cd player and found it was one of the most awesome cds I ever got. The songs "Crazy", "I feel fine" and "See the light" are awesome. If you like NFG and pop-punk bands you should get this cd. It's great and every song rocks. I definitely recommend getting this cd. You will definitely enjoy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty damn good for a Texas punk band, January 31, 2004
This review is from: Hurry Up & Wait (Audio CD)
Let me start by saying I don't usually like the hardcore, in-your-face, yelling in my ear type stuff, so those kinds of fans would probably be unimpressed with this album. This is more or less pop-punk, but since many pop-punk bands are lyrically fruitless bubble gum machine musicians, the Riddlin Kids don't necessarily fall into the same category. Hurry Up and Wait has much the same appeal as Blink 182's Dude Ranch or Allister's Songs From Suburbia (all great from start to finish); lots of relationship stuff, driving rhythms & power chords, decent lyrics & attitude, good solid listening. Admittedly this album is not a very diverse effort, but each song is distinguishable enough not to be labeled as filler and no single song is unlistenable. "I Feel Fine" is probably what most people will recognize as the radio hit with a funny music video, and stands out a bit from the rest of the CD. This band's songs are the kind that don't seem to tire easily, and hopefully they'll come out with another album soon! The Riddlin Kids are Austin, TX rockers that have what it takes to get you hooked!

4.0 out of 5 stars Catchy and fun, January 1, 2004

Riddlin' Kids are a catchy, poppy/punk group who seem to just want to have fun, and they get that done with this album. Fans of Blink 182 (before their self-titled latest album) will enjoy Hurry Up & Wait. If you get a chance, watch the video for "I Feel Fine". Funny stuff...give it a listen.
