Ace the NCLEX-RN--with the help of nursing review pioneer Marlene Hurst!

Use Marlene's unique “no cram, pass with what you already know” system and slash your study time in half

Based on Marlene Hurst's phenomenally popular nursing seminars that train over 30,000 students annually, this innovative review is loaded with the author's time-tested strategies--all designed to help you pass the NCLEX certification and course exams the first time around!

NCLEX-RN Review breaks the mold of other review books by explaining how to apply critical thinking and test-taking skills, rather than how to re-learn course content. Marlene shows you how to effectively work with the “think-on-your-feet” philosophy of the NCLEX-RN, not against it.

Features:

  • A complete NCLEX-RN toolkit--from the world's most sought-after speaker on passing the NCLEX
  • Over 1,000 skill-building NCLEX-style questions, complete with answers and rationales
  • Full of concise, easy-to-remember strategies that cut study time in half!
  • An eye-catching four-color format
  • “Marlene Moments”--Marlene's humorous anecdotes of common student mistakes that offer a light-hearted look at how new nurses learn to succeed
  • “What the NCLEX Lady Thinks”--valuable tips that reveal the rationale behind certain types of NCLEX questions and how to adjust your strategy accordingly
  • Chapter-ending NCLEX practice questions that solidify important information and show you how it will be tested on the NCLEX examination
  • Companion CD-ROM with 300 additional NCLEX-style questions, plus downloadable MP3 audio tips from Marlene Hurst's award-winning NCLEX reviews

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, May 24, 2008
This review is from: Hurst Reviews NCLEX-RN Review (Paperback)
This book is different from other NCLEX review books and is a must have! This is not a content review - there is some - but rather a guided approach to those confusing NCLEX questions. It helps you dissect the question and answer using the knowledge you already have. My school exam scores went up after using her techniques. I have bought several NCLEX review books and feel this one gave me the best advice on how to approach the test.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is what helped me pass the NCLEX, August 9, 2009

Erica P. (Flagstaff, AZ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hurst Reviews NCLEX-RN Review (Paperback)
I know that other reviewers have had harsh words for this book, but I loved it. First off this is not for content review. I used Saunders big blue NCLEX for that during nursing school and it was great during that time but not for "the big test" preparation. The Hurst review helps you learn strategies for taking the NCLEX and breaks down different question types. As many of my co-workers told me not to even "study" for NCLEX I couldn't just NOT STUDY, but as I reviewed this book and the CD I began wishing that I had looked at this book prior to graduating. I gave this book to two of my classmates who failed their NCLEX the first time using Saunders only and they passed. Let me say that this book is good for those of you who think that you probably really did learn something in nursing school, if you feel that you need to "cram" then this is not for you. My nursing school required us to do the 2 day Meds Publishing NCLEX review course and so I felt my content was good, my nerves were mostly test related and those stupid questions! Good luck to you all, trust me - you know way more than you think you do!

1.0 out of 5 stars Far from the "best" NCLEX review, June 19, 2008
This review is from: Hurst Reviews NCLEX-RN Review (Paperback)
As a nursing instructor for over 7 years I was curious to read this review book. I had heard a lot about the Hurst Review and its claim of success. After reviewing the questions included I am surprised- most were written at the knowledge or comprehension level and I only saw a few written at the application level. Any nurse educator will tell you that to successfully pass NCLEX a student needs to answer questions on the application, analysis and synthesis levels. The answers were also obvious for many questions (the correct answer was longer than the rest) and the stems were extremely long. After taking numerous item writing courses and educational presentations about the NCLEX and test taking skills, I honestly don't think this review book is effective. As a nursing instructor I would hesitate to recommend this book.
