Great Book,
By NurseMom (NJ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hurst Reviews NCLEX-RN Review (Paperback)
This book is different from other NCLEX review books and is a must have! This is not a content review - there is some - but rather a guided approach to those confusing NCLEX questions. It helps you dissect the question and answer using the knowledge you already have. My school exam scores went up after using her techniques. I have bought several NCLEX review books and feel this one gave me the best advice on how to approach the test.

This is what helped me pass the NCLEX,
By Erica P. (Flagstaff, AZ) - See all my reviews

I know that other reviewers have had harsh words for this book, but I loved it. First off this is not for content review. I used Saunders big blue NCLEX for that during nursing school and it was great during that time but not for "the big test" preparation. The Hurst review helps you learn strategies for taking the NCLEX and breaks down different question types. As many of my co-workers told me not to even "study" for NCLEX I couldn't just NOT STUDY, but as I reviewed this book and the CD I began wishing that I had looked at this book prior to graduating. I gave this book to two of my classmates who failed their NCLEX the first time using Saunders only and they passed. Let me say that this book is good for those of you who think that you probably really did learn something in nursing school, if you feel that you need to "cram" then this is not for you. My nursing school required us to do the 2 day Meds Publishing NCLEX review course and so I felt my content was good, my nerves were mostly test related and those stupid questions! Good luck to you all, trust me - you know way more than you think you do!

Far from the "best" NCLEX review,
This review is from: Hurst Reviews NCLEX-RN Review (Paperback)
As a nursing instructor for over 7 years I was curious to read this review book. I had heard a lot about the Hurst Review and its claim of success. After reviewing the questions included I am surprised- most were written at the knowledge or comprehension level and I only saw a few written at the application level. Any nurse educator will tell you that to successfully pass NCLEX a student needs to answer questions on the application, analysis and synthesis levels. The answers were also obvious for many questions (the correct answer was longer than the rest) and the stems were extremely long. After taking numerous item writing courses and educational presentations about the NCLEX and test taking skills, I honestly don't think this review book is effective. As a nursing instructor I would hesitate to recommend this book.

Not the greatest,
This review is from: Hurst Reviews NCLEX-RN Review (Paperback)
This is not the greatest NCLEX review book I have looked at. What was most annoying is that the answers to all teh questions in the book are directly below the question. Therefore, looking at the question, you can already see the answer. To us this book, I had to put tape over the answers so I wouldn't "cheat" by seeing the answer before working through the problem on my own. Also, the MP3s promised on the CD are not supplemental, but an exact copy of what is included in the book. Also, the speaker on the MP3s is difficult to understand at times. In all, I will utilize this book, but I wish I had not wasted the money on this and bought something else instead.

Mistakes Noted in the book,

This review is from: Hurst Reviews NCLEX-RN Review (Paperback)
I like this book, I felt I was understanding it pretty well until I noticed some errors. And when you are studying and wanting to trust everything that this resource is telling you is true and you find a mistake it kind of throws me off..It makes me wonder what else are they making mistakes on..
for instance page 60 it is telling me the right answer but have mixed up the numbers somehow and so now she is giving a rationale for the wrong answer..very frustrating...

I have read alot of NCLEX review books ....and this one is different!!!! It keeps the reader interested, and has great tips on how to approach NCLEX questions that no other review book, that I have read, has offered. There is some much needed humor...which also helped the information "click"! The color illustrations are great!! I would highly recommend this book!!!

I liked the format for this book. Since there are multiple sources for practice NCLEX question, I didn't use the Q & A with this book, but loved the chapter with helpful tables you should know. It helped me review norms and meds. This book gave me something that other NCLEX reviews didn't, confidence. The suggestions or Marlene moments offered advice that was easy to remember while taking the EXAM.Passed on the first attempt.
