I Walk The Line

Biography

Beginning his career as an outlaw to the Nashville establishment, Johnny Cash has come to define country music over the last 40 years. At first, his unique mix of hillbilly music with gospel and blues made him a perfect fit at Sam Phillips' Sun records, where he recorded such classics as "Folsom Prison Blues" and "I Walk The Line." From there, Johnny signed with Columbia records and embarked on… Read more in Amazon's Johnny Cash Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Johnny's Rendition to Hurt, February 15, 2003

First off I have to say that my taste in music is a wide variety of stuff. I've been a huge fan of Johnny Cash since I can remember and I'm also a huge of Nine Inch Nails. When I first heard the Cash was remixing one of the most beloved NIN songs "Hurt" I was impressed, and was very impressed when I hear and saw the video to it. This is a great song, full of emotion and should not be missed out on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cash will make you hurt, in a good way, February 13, 2003

What an amazing cover. I loved the Nine Inch Nails song when I was a teenager. It never occurred to me how well it would transfer to this aging legend. Cash's quivering voice presses the sorrow and regret of this song. It is absolutely beautiful. Now, I did not like the B-side of Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus" all that much. I just do not think Cash captured it like he did "Hurt." Hurt is great; I highly recommend you get this.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Reminder of the Power behind the Great Man Johnny Cash, September 12, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Hurt: Personal Jesus (Audio CD)
I recall listening to Johnny Cash when I was a child in the early 80's when my father was a fan. I admire the power of Mr. Cash's rendition of Trent Reznor's "Hurt". When I first heard Nine Inch Nails' song---I thought it was a great song. But I must say that Johnny Cash's verison literally blows the original verison away. Not many of my generation (Gen-X) who are now reaching their 30's are too familiar with Johnny Cash. Neither does the current generation (Gen-Y or Gen-whatever) really know who this man was & its a shame that they never will. He was a great influence to music (Rock, Country, Blues) that not many realize. Justin Timberlake tried in a failed attempt to let this current generation extend respect to such a great artist. Maybe if he would have stepped down from receiving the MTV award---he would have made his point clear. I had an opporntunity to know about Johnny Cash & his music due to having parents who were teenagers during the 50's. I'm glad that I have. His music, whether it is his own or a cover of someone else's work, is a true treat for any music-lover to enjoy. May God bless Johnny Cash for his gift to us. May he rest in peace with his beloved wife. The Music Industry really should morn for this great loss.
