Dean Martin "Cool Then, Cool Now" 2-CD/Book

Biography

It’s been nearly ten years since Dean Martin departed this earth, but the man’s stature as an artist and icon continues to grow. His importance to generations of music fans (not to mention aficionados of masculine cool) now far outstrips his former reputation as the tippler of the Rat Pack¹s tuxedoed triumvirate or Jerry Lewis’ crooning straight man. He was, simply put, a great singer ¬ the warm… Read more in Amazon's Dean Martin Store

I've listens these hits from 60's from the Reprise records that never reproduced on CD's form until now. What took so long?

5.0 out of 5 stars Dino with the country blues, October 21, 1999
By
This review is from: Hurtin Country Songs (Audio CD)
Dean Martin fans will applaud this long awaited release of some of his recordings from the Reprise years. For those who may have wondered what all the fuss is about, there is plenty here to answer that question. While one can question some of the selections, ( Dino was surely smiling all the way through SINGIN' THE BLUES) he is at his best often enough to make the casual observer see the light! No one including Hank Williams himself has performed a more achingly beautiful version of I'M SO LONESOME I COULD CRY and the same can be said of Dean's versions on BORN TO LOSE and DETROIT CITY. He also more than equals Ray Price on FOR THE GOOD TIMES.

All in all a superb release, that will continue the burgeoning interest of todays generation in this legendary performer. Two quick asides: When Capitol releases Deans version of LITTLE GREEN APPLES run, don't walk, to but it. Also to a previous reviewer, Capitol has released Dean's "Swingin' Down Yonder" album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dean does country, March 22, 2000

This review is from: Hurtin Country Songs (Audio CD)
This is a great album. Dean does a great job on many of these country tunes including For the Good Times, Born To Lose, I'm so Lonesome I can Cry, By the Time I get To Phoenix, and Gentle on My Mind. He is definitely an underappreciated country singer.
