I am a big Brenda Novak fan, but I have to say, Ihave been really deceived by this book. It took me 3 weeks to finish it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous heroine! Highly recommended, May 26, 2003
In her early thirties, Rebecca Wells still sneaks an occasional cigarette and struggles to control her temper. Her nemesis Josh Hill, who lived across the street when they were growing up, fills her father's dreams of an ideal child, resulting in twenty-four years of discord. The wounds still have not healed, especially when her father announces that she is not invited to her parents anniversary party unless she promises to behave, meaning she has to strike a truce with Josh.

No one knows about the evening a year ago that proves that the chemistry between them has escalated, but neither Rebecca nor Josh can quite forget. With her best friend married, Rebecca decides it is time to marry and move away from Dundee, where her reputation has proven to be quite limiting. Unfortunately, her fiancé is more concerned with getting his great aunt to the wedding than sticking with a wedding date, so she dumps him and looks a bit closer to home. The question remains if Josh is up to her wild eccentricities!

I confess a weakness for heroines who do not fit the classic model of decorum. I identify with women like Rebecca who struggle with to grow beyond her reputation as a troublemaker and to quit smoking. It's heroines like Rebecca that make Superromances sparkle, because they are flawed, sassy and real. And they get guys like Josh, a fantasy come true. And with author Brenda Novak's pen, they also get a very bumpy ride on the way to romance, filled with the emotional conundrums that makes her stories outrageous, fun and believable. A HUSBAND OF HER OWN comes highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brenda Novak is so fun to read!, May 28, 2011
I'm on a sort-of marathon of reading Brenda's Dundee, Idaho series. This was #2, and I can hardly wait to read the rest.

Rebecca is 32 yrs old. Since she has always had the reputation around town of being a constant trouble maker/hell raiser, even she believes it & doesn't think she's able to change herself.

Sometimes all it takes is one special person (preferably from the opposite sex) to make one see her self-worth. But when this one special person is someone you've feuded with your whole life, it doesn't happen overnight. Even though the reader can see they belong together, it takes them awhile to catch on! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars One of her Best..., August 29, 2006

I am a Brenda Novak fan and this is one of her best. Often the endings of books are not the way I'd like to see them. This one ended just perfectly and left me feeling warm and fuzzy.

I also disliked Rebbeca's father very much by the way he always put his dauthter down, even at the end. I wished someone would have give him some humility but alas, it never happened.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully written, June 1, 2003
By A Customer
This was wonderfully written.Brenda out did herself once again.

The story takes place in Dundee Idaho and Rebecca Wells wants to overcome her reputation and wants to get past her twenty-four year rivalry with the Perfect golden boy and successful horse rancher Josh Hill.
When Rebecca's father tells her that she has to call a truce with Josh or she will not be invited to attend their anniversary party Rebecca is upset and hurt that her father would even tell her that. When Josh shows up Rebecca tells him he doesn't have to stay to get his hair cut that they could call a truce now and just get it over with.Josh stays and lets Rebecca cut his hair and sparks start to fly.
Rebecca is also engaged to a man named Buddy who keeps putting of their wedding. When Josh figures out that he is in love with Rebecca he gets a hold of Buddy and starts to tell him of all the things Rebecca did growing up and Buddy tells Rebecca that they should not get married right now if at all.Rebecca is confused and wonders who could have told Buddy all that stuff about her. When she finds out it was Josh she is upset but they end up in each others arms and the rest is history.
This was a great book and one I couldn't put down.Brenda is a brilliant & awsome writer.Keep up the great work can't wait for your next book.

4.0 out of 5 stars wild romantic romp, May 13, 2003
In Dundee, Idaho, now in her early thirties, hairdresser Rebecca Wells decides she wants to marry and raise a family, but her fiancé prefers to wait especially with her best friend and former roommate now married (see A BABY OF HER OWN). Being her usual unpredictable self, Rebecca gives Buddy the heave deciding to find commitment elsewhere. Rebecca knows that she lives life in a frenzy mode so that whoever she chooses, as a spouse, will have quite an adjustment to her lunacy.

Her father believes neighbor Josh Hill would make a perfect son-in-law. However, he is the boy next door for over two decades who Rebecca competed against as a kid mostly for her dad's affection. She resented him then and has not changed her feelings towards him one iota, as her father approved his endeavors while frowning at her. Deep inside her gut, though she is loathed to admit it even to herself, Rebecca knows that whenever she sees Josh, her heart beats faster. Could her hate have turned into love and what about Josh? Does he think she is the wacky prima Donna from next door or is he feeling love too?

The return to Idaho is a fun contemporary romance starring an eccentric individual who will keep readers either laughing at her antics or rooting for her to succeed in finding A HUSBAND OF HER OWN. Like the heroine the story line is a bit off the edge, leading to fans of wild romantic romps delighting in Rebecca's campaign though why the urge to marry seems as strange as her frantic behavior.
