We all have a little Twyla in us...,
By A Customer
This review is from: Husband For Hire (Heart Of The West) (Paperback)
I kept hearing music in my head as I read this. Maybe the soundtrack to the movie "Hope Floats". It's the story of a small-town girl whose big city dreams didn't quite work out, her loopy mother in tennis shoes (keep kleenex handy), her funny little son who really really wants a dad...and a guy to die for (after he gets over his big-city lifestyle). The book is smart, sexy, and touching. The reader who thought the love scenes were tame just lacks imagination. When he told her to leave her hair long and wear the red high heels...whew! You don't really need to be hit over the head with clinical descriptions. This worked for me, big time.

NOT SUSAN WIGG'S BEST WORK...,
By A Customer
This review is from: Husband For Hire (Heart Of The West) (Paperback)
Susan Wiggs is a great author and I love her historicals, unfortuntely this one did nothing for me. I am so disappointed because I was really looking forward to it. I really like the heroine and her cute little boy. But in a book I have to like the hero or it's a flop to me. The book would have been great but the hero had a girlfriend the whole time and lied about it. I can't stand that. He should have broken up with the girlfriend before sleeping with the heroine. She deserved someone better after what she went through. Also I don't feel the author really resolved the whole girlfriend issue at the end. I am so sorry to give this book a bad review. Read The Charm School by Susan Wiggs. Now that is a masterpiece! Don't judge this author by this lame book.

Susan Wiggs is very talented. She writes stories about real people. Unfortunately I couldn't deal with Rob lying by ommision to Twyla about his girlfriend Lauren. I like characters that don't pull any punches. No nonsense, blunt characters like the ones Nora Roberts and Sandra Brown write. Ms. Wiggs writes clever stories that are different, but I can't bring myself to recommend this one. Her stories love scenes are very tame and since I'm 30 years old I like my romance a little steamier than this. Look, if you don't care about the tame love scenes and you don't have a probelm with a guy messing around with another women while he is in a commited relationship with someone else than you may like this story. Ms. Wiggs is very good at getting human emotions across. I really felt for Twyla's mom Gwen in this story.

Didn't care for Hero,

If Rob didn't have a girlfriend/fiancee waiting for him then this whole book would have been different. Rob was never completely honest with Twyla. He let her believe that there wasn't anyone else knowing how her ex-husband treated her. I can handle the infidelity and lying in a romance, but only if these issues are discussed and dealt with. In Husband for Hire they are not dealt with. Nothing else is even mentioned in regards to them so it kind of left the impression that there would not be a HEA after all the H/h could not even communicate and deal with things.

Real people, real problems, true love,

Interesteing comment below about setting women back. The truth is, a lot of women DO want to show up at their high school reunion looking successful and important. Read this book. What Twyla learns in the end is that life is what you make it, and nothing is more important than friends and family.

Susan Wiggs has penned a wonderful, light-hearted story that truly touched my heart. Her characters are absolutley unforgettable. This book is the first in a twelve book series where bachelors are auctioned off in a Wyoming town. What a great start for the on-going tale. This is a must read for Wiggs' fans.

Love Susan Wiggs,
This review is from: Husband for Hire (Kindle Edition)
I am a big fan of Susan Wigg's books. I loved how she explained the back grounds of both main characters from their own point of view. I feel like that helped give the story substance. Loved both characters, loved the story plot, loved this easy read! Another great book by Susan Wiggs

I see how some readers did not really like this Susan Wiggs' book. I, however, thoroughly enjoyed it. It definitely had a "small town feel" to it, complete with nosy, well-meaning friends. I liked both the characters of Rob and Tywla and how Rob, through Twyla, comes to realize he is still a "small town boy" at heart. I liked the whole book and it was a quick read. I loved how Rob realizes that what he had with Lauren was "artificial" and that Twyla was the "real thing". I recommend this book absolutely!!!

wonderful small town story,

Courtesy of A Romance ReviewMs Wiggs has written a wonderful small town story with love and friendship. The hero, Rob, may not be a man to die for but he is surely a good catch nowadays. He is handsome, good hearted, and helpful. Twyla, the heroine, isn¡¦t beautiful, courageous or strong but she is independent and friendly. The attractions between the two are mutual from the beginning but since Rob has a girl friend already, it isn't exactly convenient for him to pursue another. Ms. Wiggs¡¦ first contemporary romance has some realistic and likeable characters. They are people that you may find living next door. Some of them will appear through out the rest of the "Heart of the West" series. After reading one of these books you won¡¦t be able to resist reading the rest of them.

Characters well-defined,

The characters were well done in this book, but that is the best you can say about it. This book was a big disappointment -- not up to Wigg's usual standards. The storyline was trite and sets women back 30 years. Read Wigg's "Lighthouse" -- it is 10 times better.
