I Will Survive for 2009,
This review is from: Hush Hush; Hush Hush (MP3 Download)
Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" was, first and foremost, a disco anthem. Many women stood up and danced to the song, telling themselves and the world that they were better than that guy who thought he could walk back in the door. The Dolls new song, "Hush, Hush, Hush, Hush" uses not just samples of the song, but that entire theme to express to a whole new generation that no guy is worth it and that we women can survive quite well without them, thank you very much. Is it original? No. Is a song of artistic merit, probably not. Is it a song that will make you feel better in the midst of a break up, you bet your favorite disco outfit, it will!

There have been so many songs that recently sampled other songs, that they are just simply wastes of heart and soul. It has been the case with so many recently bad sampled songs from Welcome To the World for Kevin Rudolf and his recent Genesis sample of Man On the Corner. But for The Pussycat Dolls, they haven't struck that chord with making a sampled song better with their latest single, Hush Hush, the 4th single from their sophmore album Doll Domination. The song which takes the hook, line and sinker from the classic Gloria Gaynor Disco anthem I Will Survive, just wasn't very exciting to listen to at all. It felt like they didn't strike the essence of the classic anthem for women in power that Gloria had made her own well even to today's standards. I really think The Pussycat Dolls need to find better material to call their own, and I even think Gloria Gaynor would've been just as dissapointed too.Song: F+ |
